We bought a van from a private seller. All the paperwork was completed correctly, and within a month, we received our V5C. A year later, a bailiff came calling, demanding £500 or to take the van because the council issued a fine. It turns out the fine was issued to our company, but it was sent to the previous owner's address. We paid the bailiff because we were a bit scared, but the man suggested to appeal to the council because it was clearly not our fault.
