Bringing EU-registered car to UK for 5 days as a UK resident

Hi,

I plan to move out of UK in a couple of days and a friend of mine borrowed me their campervan to do this. The van is registered and insured in an EU country and I will be driving from France to UK to pack up and move my stuff. The gov.uk site is confusing because I'm either in a gray area or I am required to register, pay VAT, get MOT etc. I don't seem to fall into temporary imports exepmtion.
I can't stop being a resident immediately also because I'm still an employee. Should I go via a different route or am I safe?

As a UK resident it is not lawful for you to drive an EU registered vehicle as the concession for temporary import of foreign vehicles only applies to overseas residents.

Hire cars have different rules so it's OK for a UK resident to hire a French registered camper van & drive it in the UK. A company car has similar rules to hire car. Neither case covers the OP borrowing a car.
