NIP - online response available?
« on: December 23, 2024, 05:02:01 pm »
Hi,
I received an NIP for marginal speeding, are police supposed to give you the option of providing your name as the driver online? I am only given the option of responding via post out of pocket

The police have no obligation to provide you with a means of complying with your legal obligations.

Your nomination will be the only evidence that you were the driver. AIUI the police want that in writing to avoid any dispute over an online response.

As for "out of pocket", if the police were to provide a freepost service you can imagine the Daily Mail headline: "Labour government spend taxpayers' money on criminals' postage".

The OP should also note that this thread has been moved to the Flame Pit, where it ought to have been originally (and the several other times he has incorrectly posted and had the post removed).

Just as a matter of interest, Norfolk & Suffolk constabularies don't appear to be bothered about that.

I nominated myself online last year.

The web page on which I did so had the following wording:  "By typing your name in the box below you are signing that you ADMIT to being the driver at the time of the alleged offence.  You will receive an offer for the penalty options that are available to you once the admission has been processed.  Once you have received the offer, if you do not comply, this admission will form part of a notice for court proceedings for the alleged offence."
