New cameras active on the A249 Detling Hill
« on: »
As any users of Kent's motorway system will probably know, there's been roadworks on the A249 between the M20 and M2 for several years. The old speed camera at the bottom of Detling Hill going towards the M2 has obviously not worked for ages, but I found out the expensive way that that has been replaced by what the road signs say are average speed cameras.

In mid April i was going to work late at night and was obviously going a bit faster that the 50 mph in a loan car. The owner or the loan car informed me that he'd got a s172 notice and named me as the driver. I've now got the s172 of my very own, 57mph on the A249 at Detling towards Sittingbourne. Vague locus possibly? I ought to be able to get an SAC, I can't remmeber when the last one was, and I've got 3 points that are due to come off by now. I wonder if it's worth a challenge?

But a warning to all others in the area, the cameras work sometimes!
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

I don't think so, Roy. I would take "At Detling" on the A249 northbound to cover not much more than about half a mile of that road, roughly between the 1st turnoff to the village on the right ("The Street") and the second turnoff by the big footbridge ("Pilgrims' Way"). Those two turnoffs provide an entry to each end of the village and cover its entire length. I think you'd struggle to argue that description was so vague that you were not sure where it was.

Thanks for that NewJudge. That there's signs indicating "average speed cameras" made me wonder where the next camera is. The first is just beyond "Jade's Bridge".

It’s of no help to you I’m afraid Roy but there has been a strapline warning of the activation of the average speed cameras at Detling hill on the KMSCP website for a while now.

Quite, but not everyone looks at that site. Oh well I'll just hope I can get anther course!

To add a bit of irony to this case, when my partner's car was in for a service with the garage that I got the loan car from, she got a s172 notice. The driver was garage owner's mrs!!
