Ambulance overtaking during variable speed limit
« on: »
Hi everyone,

I received a speeding fine for driving 70mph in a 60mph variable speed zone, which is normally 70mph. I recall the situation clearly: an ambulance approached from behind, so I adjusted my speed and changed lanes to let it pass. The ambulance triggered the speed camera, and I checked my speed, which was set at 70mph. The camera flashed again, and I was confused, thinking it couldn't be me.

I missed the variable speed limit sign because my attention was drawn to my rearview mirror and the road ahead for switching lanes due to the ambulance.

In the photos, the ambulance is clearly visible. My question is: Since the ambulance’s siren and flashing lights were a significant distraction, could this be considered a mitigating circumstance for missing the variable speed limit sign?

I appreciate your help.

Furthermore, I have tried to upload a photo; however, it looks like there's an issue with the website.

Yes but going to court, pleading guilty and being sentenced taking that mitigation into account will cost you more than a course or fixed penalty.
