Speeding, London 20 miles zone - NIP
« on: »
Hi - I received a NIP for doing 35 in a 20 zone in East London. It’s completely my fault, and I totally accept that. I have a clean licence with no points. What’s the best-case scenario in this situation? Has anyone had any recent experiences with a similar speeding offence? What are the odds for an FPN here? Thanks for your help.

Unless you've attended a Speed Awareness course in the last three years, you'll be offered the option of that or a fixed penalty.

The latter is £100 and three points. The course will cost about the same, but with no points. It will take 3-4 hours of your time, and can usually be taken online.

For 35 in a 20?

I think this will more likely be a summons.

You're right. I misread it as 35 in a 30.

Thank you! Is there anything that I can do (plead guilty quicker) to be considered for a FPN than a summons?

No.

It's going to court.  They have 6 months to commence the prosecution and they often leave it to the last moment (just when you thought they had forgotten).  However, you'll be able to plead guilty by post and hopefully they won't require your presence to consider a ban.

It will be 4-6 points (likely 5) and a fine of one week relevant earnings plus costs and surcharge (40% of the fine).

Not really, the limits for offering a fixed penalty are strictly adhered to, so any speed in a 20 that is over 34 will proceed to court (via a Single Justice Procedure Notice).

This could be me. I also recd an NIP this week for doing 35 on a 20 East London road last week. Absolutely gutted as I've never had a ticket in over 20 years of driving and my licence is as clean as whistle. Sunday morning on a straight road that wasn't even in a residential area, and there was no one around. Even at 30mph limit, I'd still be over. So pissed off with myself. Anyway, I sent a note with the NIP, apologising, but I don't suppose it'd make any difference. What a totally shitty year I'm having. Can't afford a fine and don't even think I could bring myself to attend court.
