Free Traffic Legal Advice

Hi folks,

At the beginning of March, I received a NIP to say I'd gone through a red light.  I sent the paperwork back a week later (tracked and signed for).

It has been two months now, and I haven't heard a dickie bird.  I know they have six months to get back to me, but I'm wondering on average, how long does it take to hear?  I'm getting more anxious now, and checking the post daily.  I also don't want to phone GoSafe, to check the progress, as it might chivvy them into actioning it.

Not sure.  I think I stopped at the red light, but the road conditions were really poor that night - my bumper was probably over the line slightly...even though I didn't drive through the red.

I had travelled about 30 miles that night, and the road markings were really difficult to see.  I remember saying that to the other people in the car throughout the journey 

Being reluctant to “prod the hornets’ nest” is a double edged sword.

If the police have offered you an out-of-court settlement (a course or a fixed penalty) and you have not received it, the offer will eventually lapse and you will face prosecution in court. Whilst there is a way to persuade the court to sentence you at the fixed penalty equivalent (if they think it is appropriate) the court has no power to order a course and that opportunity will be lost.

So you have to decide: is it worth nudging them to see what’s happening or do you let sleeping dogs lie in the hope your case has suffered the electronic equivalent of falling down the back of a filing cabinet?
