NIP / S172 - Ship Lane Bridge - Purfleet
« on: »
Evening everyone, I wonder if anybody is able to help or advise please?

I've received two speeding tickets that are around two hours apart on the same stretch of road, going in opposite directions. The alleged speed both times said the exact same (59 in a 50)

To my knowledge there are no speed signs there, or if there are, they are new, and a friend who visited there this evening mentioned that apparently there are no longer cameras there.

It is 'A13 Trunk Road, (Ship Lane Bridge - Purfleet Road Bridge).

Any help or advice would be fantastic.

Thanks!

Clearly there was a camera, else you wouldn't have ended up here!

Checking on Google Streetview, I can see several 50MPH repeater signs on this stretch (as of 2024). So your powers of observation may not be infallible.

Assuming you haven't done a speed awareness course in th4 last 3 years, one of the offences should see this offer. The other will should see a £100 and 3 point fixed penalty.

I also have no direct personal knowledge of there being any speed limit signs (assuming that is what you meant by "speed signs") on that road - although in my case, I have almost certainly never driven on that road either.

What matters is whether or not there were speed limit signs, not whether you were aware of them. Or more specifically, what matters is if you can prove that the signage was defective/inadequate (if it was). The evidential value of you having no recollection of seeing speed limit signs, is approximately zero. Also, unless you are suggesting that the signs that aren't there were erected after the alleged offence, how new they are is similarly irrelevant.

If there are no fixed cameras, it was presumably mobile enforcement.
I am responsible for the accuracy of the information I post, not your ability to comprehend it.

Google Street View from August 2025 shows 50 mph repeaters, a system of street lighting, and an average speed check zone.

If you didn't see the 50 mph repeaters, you should have assumed that the street lights indicated a restricted road with a 30 mph limit.
