Incorrect vehicle registration number on FPN
« on: »
I've tried to search for similar posts on here but couldn't find any so apologies if this has been covered before.

I was stopped by the police (Scotland) for driving with an expired MOT. They issued me with a FPN for £100.

I've read through the ticket and the officer hasn't put the correct vehicle registration on it - one of the letters is wrong.

Is this challengeable or should I just pay the fine?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Well you could decline the fixed penalty offer.

The police will then prosecute you in court and the FPN will play no part in the proceedings.

The guideline penalty in court is half a week’s net income. You will also pay a surcharge of 40% of the fine and costs, which will be around £95 if you plead guilty or around £650 if you are convicted following a trial.

£100 looks to be a bit of a bargain!

No costs in Scotland.

Thanks for the replies. It's the first time I've had any type of ticket.

This site was suggested to me to find out further information so just wanted to ask.

Cheers again.
