I was driving on a 50 mph limit road. A police officer entered from a roundabout while i was two cars ahead.
Officer initially alleged a speed of 83 mph as that’s what it took to make ground on me. Upon denying this speed, officer verbally reduced the allegation to approximately 70–73 mph. Officer stated he did not have a laser or radar, but claimed he was travelling at 83 mph and “wasn’t gaining much ground,” using this to estimate my speed which he has recording of via dashcam.
I’m not here to deny, as I hold my hand up I was going at 62-65 mph maximum, of course when questioned i said i was going 50mph. The road was 1.1km in length, in which I braked to exit around 800m in. I have an electric car which accelerates fast, which could create speed differential. Officer stated he would review footage and finalise the speed later, so the exact alleged speed is not yet confirmed but he cautioned me and told me to expect a letter, and if i have any arguement he will see me in court.
First time offence, clean license. Any advice appreciated regarding any defences or next steps i should prepare for. Thank you for your time
