50mph in a 30mph .
« on: »
Hi folks i have just received 2 speeding tickets for the same location A446 Lichfield Road ,Coleshill North which has a limit of 30mph, one ticket was for 44mph and one for 50mph. One offence was dated 30/11/25 and the other 22/10/25 and the notice issue date is 19/2/26 for the NIP. I currently have no points on my license and no speed awareness courses on record in the last 3.5 years according too ndors.org.I am aware of the 14 day rule and i would like to know what are my best options for this scenario please? Thankyou Richard

First question, are you the Registered Keeper (i.e. do you have the V5C document, in your name and current address)?

Hi fuzzyduck . Yes i am the registered keeper . But my V5C is registered to my old address and the name was spelt wrong on the V5C and i never corrected it .To addone of the NIPs is spelt incorrectly like on the V5C the other is correct . The name and address is correct on my driving license .

Presumably, as you are "aware of the 14 day rule", you will be aware both that a NIP delivered to the RK's last known address within the 14 days satisfies the requirements, and that where no NIP is served on the driver or RK within the 14 days, it is not a bar to conviction when the accused by his own conduct contributed to the failure.

For the 44 in a 30, you will not be offered a course, but you should be offered a fixed penalty. For the 50 in a 30, you will not be offered a fixed penalty (only offered up to 49). Expect 6 points in court, unless you have a viable defence that you have chosen not to trouble us with. Obviously, this is assuming that you comply withe the requirement to name the driver - failing to do so would earn you 6 points for each NIP.
I am responsible for the accuracy of the information I post, not your ability to comprehend it.

Thankyou for the response . So it will total 9 points for the offences and a fixed penalty of £100 for the non court offence. Will i have too attend court ? And what will there be a bigger fine for the 6 points?

Correct.

Will i have too attend court ?

Only if the "Single Justice" believes a ban should be considered, in which case you will be asked to attend a hearing in the normal Magistrates' Court. Nothing you have said suggests that will happen so you should be sentenced under the Single Justice Procedure with no attendance being necessary.

The court fine should be a week's net income, reduced by a third for your guilty plea. You will also pay a surcharge of 40% of that fine and prosecution costs of about £95.

A friend of my partner at work is an ex copper and he is saying that potentially they might charge me with driving without due care ? Hes advising me too speak to a solicitor who deals with driving offences. What is your view on this? Thankyou

My view is “don’t take legal advice from cops” (hint: they’re not lawyers).

Or to put it another way, he’s talking out of his hoop.
I am not qualified to give legal advice in the UK. While I will do my best to help you, you should not rely on my advice as if it was given by a lawyer qualified in the UK.
