3 Convictions on the same day
« on: October 18, 2023, 09:21:39 pm »
On Saturday morning i received a letter through stating i had been flashed on the A316 and was doing 59 in a 50. I regularly use this route and know the camera between Job's diary and Sunbury Cross. I was a bit suprised as have never been caught before .

The letter was offering me the potential chance of a driver’s awareness course which they decide on. I sent off the paperwork on Monday with my details completed and thought nothing more off it.

On Tuesday i came home to two more letters from the police. I opened them to see a further two potential charges ! These were driving on the same road (A316) on the same day for going 46 in a 40. One camera was near Butts Farm and the other the other side on my journey home. All three of these charges relate to driving on the same strech of road on October 8th.The first conviction was approx 9.23am for going 59 in a 50 (average speed ) then 4 minutes later 46 in a 40 (average speed check ) and then at 2.40pm on the way home 46 in a 40 (average speed check )

Naturally i am concerned because this could amount to a huge 9 points on my licence and then only three away from a ban.

I will hold my hands up to doing similar speeds before but three seperate convictions on the same day?
How will the court deal with this?

I did a drivers awareness course in 2021 for going through a closed lane on a Smart motorway so hopefully they will offer me this again as not speeding related.

I have an SP30 from 2019.
I did a drivers awareness course in 2013 for speeding.
Will i have any grounds to contest this or appeal at all ?
9 points would be a killer for me and 3 more would see me potentially lose my job.

If anyone has anything similar and can offer any advice legally or from experience i would be grateful.

Which court convicted you?
I am responsible for the accuracy of the information I post, not your ability to comprehend it.

If you accept the offer of a course, you will end up with two fixed penalties - six points in all. No need for any court action.

Conviction is what happens in the court, from your description you’ve had no convictions at all yet.
You should be offered an awareness course (if the offence the previous one was offered for was more than 3 years before these) as well as two fixed penalties.
You may have a case that the two 4 minutes apart amount to a single continuous offence and only get punished for one, some forces are better than others at this but it may need pointing out to them.
My concern is if you picked up 3 in a day, how many more may arrive now?

I have not been to court yet only had the letter through having to give my address.

Having spoken to a number of people my only hope is a drivers awareness course for 1 and accept the 2 x 3 points for the others.

My concern is that i did a drivers awarensss course two years ago for going through a closed lane on a Smart motorway.

Woudl this have any bearing if they would offer one again ?

I believe that motorway awareness courses and speed awareness courses are entirely different courses.  Having done a motorway course two years ago should not itself affect your eligibility to be offered a speed awarness course

That isn't a 'SPEED' awareness course, so no impact.

Did I read somewhere that all types of courses are now included in the 'previous three-year' limit?

You may well have read it somewhere, but it's not the case.

It is possible to last with nine points.I did it for 2 years.

I took a driving job to tie me over until Retirement.Bad move. They are hassling you all the time to reach undoable targets.Encouraging you to speed.

The job was the problem....it had to go and I learnt my lesson.Likewise if you start totting look at what you are doing wrong and remove the problem. That is unless you like buses. That is why the penalties are structured as they are.

Otherwise every time you pass a Gatso you will be wondering did that flash me just then??I have driven back to a Gatso when I have been concerned and seeing if others have been flashed.

Concentrate....drive only where there a few traps (static or mobile) forget any driving holidays. It appears you have a short attention span(like me).Manage it better!!!
