Hello All,

I am going to post this in the MSE forums too but I believe its a time critical thing to deal with so thought I'd ask here too.

I have received a CCJ and I'm very worried. It was addressed to my name – but the address was incorrect – it is an address that I have never lived at or that is associated with me (wrong house name and postcode), it is close in location to my address, however.

It was posted through my letter box on 23-06-2026 by the owner of the address – but it was dated 16-06-2026 so I am already 11 days delayed – I feel sick with anxiety.

This isn't the real address, but it is an example of how it is incorrect:

The CCJ was sent to:

John Doe
1 Jumbled Houses,
Townname,
Devon,
AB12 5AA

My fake address in comparison is:

John Doe
1 Jumbled House Road,
Townname,
Devon,
AB12 5BB

Both addresses exist – but the address the CCJ was sent to is in a different cul-de-sac down the road. But I don't know where they would have gotten this address for me from?

In panic on the day I phoned the legal representative – DCB Legal Ltd (who was very hostile/aggressive) – but I only ascertained that they had sent the initial claim form to this incorrect address too – which I never received (I presume the homeowner didn't post it through my letter box on this occasion). They also stated that the date of the parking violation was 15/12/2023 and the PCN was issued on the 03/01/2024. I realise now after reading the MSE forum that i shouldn't have called them – is this going to be an issue?

There is nothing on this CCJ that states what the debt is for. But the claimant is Smart Parking Limited so it can only be a parking ticket.

I remember receiving some letters in 2024 but I thought it was a scam – as i never received an actual PCN. I – wrongfully now I appreciate- ignored these letters through advice I read and believed online. Stupid – I know. I have since moved from that address (June 2025) and no longer own the car I had during 2023/4 (sold May 2025) – since moving i had not received any other letters.

Another thing that does not work in my favour is that I stupidly forgot to update my driving license when I moved house in June. We had a a broken chain move so we didn't move into our new house for some weeks after this - so did not have a permanent address for some time (end of July) and i simply forgot to update my driving license till October.

I called the Civil National Business Centre (county court on the CCJ)– and they told me to disassociate myself from the CCJ – which I have not yet acted on as I think that's wildly incorrect advice?

Should I just pay the CCJ (Ł302.32) as I am still within the 30 day period – will it definitely be wiped from the public register?

Or should I go through the ‘set aside a CCJ’ route – even considering my downfalls previously mentioned. If so - do I just submit the N244 – Application notice ASAP? How much evidence do i need to put in the box for question 10 evidence – just simply that they sent it to the wrong address that I have never lived at? Or should I send a letter to DCB Legal Ltd similar to that of troublemaker22’s letter in ‘Out of the Blue: CCJ Debt letter (for pcn)...’ on the MSE forum? I am happy to take the easiest rout/pay the pre-CCJ fine so that the CCJ is not added to my credit file – what are my options? As i cannot find any threads that are based on the complete wrong address that has never been associated to the car or myself.

The address on the V5C for the car may be relevant, the address on the driving license won’t be.

I would immediately send a Subject Access Request to Smart Parking asking for all info.

They normally respond promptly.

I think I am reading the CCJ incorrectly - and the Judgement date is (was) the 16th June - not the date the letter was sent.

This date is shown under the 'To the defendant, you have not replied to the claim form. You must pay…etc'

Dated: 16-JUN-2026

The CCJ IS on my credit file - so I guess that answers my question…

How does this change my situation?
