Hi all,

A while ago, I got a parking ticket in a pub car park. The rule for the car park was that it could be used if you were using the pub facilities, which I was - I went in to use the toilet, and before doing so, I asked the owner if I could use the facilities, and she said yes. She didn’t mention anything about entering my registration on the pub’s iPad system, which I later found out was required due to getting a parking ticket through my postbox. Alongside this, where it tells you to enter your reg in is not easy to notice whatsoever.

I didn’t pay the ticket, and now it’s been escalated to the county court level. I believe I was in the right, since I followed the stated condition of using the pub’s facilities and even got explicit permission from the owner. That said, I’m worried about the impact on my credit score and want to know what my options are now that it's been sent to court.

What should I do next? Is there any way to challenge this or explain my case? And how do I prevent this from affecting my credit?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Please read https://www.ftla.uk/private-parking-tickets/read-this-first-private-parking-charges-forum-guide/ and give us more information as it requests.

In particular, “escalated to the county court level” is too vague for us to give good advice. What have you received and from whom and when? Have you received the claimant’s N180, have you submitted your own, have you submitted a defence?

Even if you lose in court and pay within 30 days it will have no impact on your ability to get credit. The words these companies use try to imply otherwise to scare you into paying. See https://www.ftla.uk/private-parking-tickets/pcn-from-ukcps-limited/msg74494/#msg74494 for more details, for example.

You say "went to court". That implies that it has already been tried and you are asking what to do now? That of course will depend on whether the claim was successful or not.

However, if you're only saying that you have now received claim, the you need to edit the title of this thread. If the claim hasn't been heard yet, then there is no CCJ. Even if it went to court and you lost, as long as the CCJ is paid within a month, the CCJ is gone, completely expunged from the record.

So, what is the case?
