Horizon Parking - Misleading Website POPLA unsuccessful
« on: »
Hi All,

I am really hoping someone can help as I am panicking a bit now!!

I have received in total 7 PCN's from Horizon parking all of which have been appealed through POPLA except the one I missed due to having so many.

So far POPLA have stated 4 have been unsuccessful and I am awaiting a decision on the remaining.

When I first started using this car park my wife phoned Horizon parking and was told I could pay after I had left using the website https://www.horizonspaces.co.uk/. The man on the phone was very helpful and even told her what postcode to put in.  When she put in the post code of my hotel WD6 1US Premier Inn Borehamwood, the only hotel options that appear for a hotel guest are Travelodge Guest. So that is what she paid for as I was a hotel guest. I paid for a Horizon carpark in good faith. The fact that their website is misleading and wrong is not my fault. I have several parking charges from them and the reasons are the same for all.

I paid, and can prove that I paid for the full duration of every stay. Horizon have my money but because their website has an error I paid for the wrong carpark which is actually 0.2 miles away.

I now also have 2 letters from DEBT RECOVERY PLUS.

I would be really grateful of some advice or any examples of letter I could send. Should I take them to small claims court???

If I type Premier Inn Borehamwood into the search bar on that website I see WD6 1JH, looks like you've entered the wrong postcode

Yes the wrong postcode does come up. The correct postcode is the one I used.
However, if you type in premier inn Borehamwood then click on it. Only travelodge options come up.

Can't see the signs on street view - but at a guess paying via the website is not available at the Premier Inn - unless you have pics that show otherwise? You did have a conversation with their oppo, but they may not a record of this.  Appears you were a genuine (repeat) customer at PI - in which case expending efforts to get them to get the charges cancelled is the best plan.  You will probably have to go higher than the desk at the hotel, or even the local manager.

After that, trying to negotiate a settlement with Horizon (but I wouldn't hold out much hope...)

If not, then it will progress to court claim eventually - which they are likely to pursue given there is >£1k on the table.  Generally any claim that is defended is discontinued, but in this case, given the value, they may not.  There will be an opportunity for mediation in the claim process where a smaller settlement could be agreed.

However - as a genuine customer, getting PI to cancel them would be best, but it may not be easy!

Thanks again.
