i visited a pub which i was designated driver at a work do. I put in my registration to the crappy computer that they supplied in the pub. I received a letter from ‘Smart Parking’ i appealed their claim which they rejected. Ever since i have ignored them. They have now pasted it on to debt recovery. What shall i do?

Post the original PCN and your appeal, then wait for a Letter of Claim.
Read https://www.ftla.uk/private-parking-tickets/read-this-first-private-parking-charges-forum-guide/ especially the bit about not identifying the driver - maybe you have done so already?
Ignore everything from debt collectors.

Ask the pub to cancel it in the meantime.

You need to complain about that letter that states: "a CCJ can be issued against you". They are hoping you are low hanging fruit on the gullible tree and will simply pay up out of ignorance and fear.

Wait until a Letter of Claim (LoC) issued and we will provide the necessary response. If you follow the advice, you will not be paying a penny to (not so) Smart Parking.

For your edification, here is some advice about why a CCJ cannot simply just be "issued":

quote]A County Court Judgment (CCJ) does not just happen—it follows a clear legal process. If someone gets a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) from a private parking company, here's what happens step by step:

1. Parking Charge Notice (PCN) Issued

• The parking company sends a letter (Notice to Keeper) demanding money.
• This is not a fine—it’s an invoice for an alleged breach of contract.

2. Opportunity to Appeal

• The recipient can appeal to the parking company.
•If rejected, they may be able to appeal to POPLA (if BPA member) or IAS (if IPC member).
• If an appeal is lost or ignored, the parking company demands payment.

3. Debt Collection Letters

• The parking company might send scary letters or pass the case to a debt collector.
• Debt collectors have no power—they just send letters and can be ignored.
No CCJ happens at this stage.

4. Letter Before Claim (LBC)

• If ignored for long enough, the parking company (or their solicitor) sends a Letter Before Claim (LBC).
• This is a warning that they may start a court case.
• The recipient has 30 days to reply before a claim is filed.
No CCJ happens at this stage.

5. County Court Claim Issued

• If ignored or unpaid, the parking company may file a claim with the County Court.
• The court sends a Claim Form with details of the claim and how to respond.
• The recipient has 14 days to respond (or 28 days if they acknowledge it).
No CCJ happens at this stage.

6. Court Process

• If the recipient defends the claim, a judge decides if they owe money.
• If the recipient ignores the claim, the parking company wins by default.
No CCJ happens yet unless the recipient loses and ignores the court.

7. Judgment & Payment

• If the court rules that money is owed, the recipient has 30 days to pay in full.
• If they pay within 30 days, no CCJ goes on their credit file.
• If they don’t pay within 30 days, the CCJ stays on their credit file for 6 years.

Conclusion

CCJs do not appear out of thin air. They only happen if:

• A parking company takes the case to court.
• The person loses or ignores the case.
• The person fails to pay within 30 days.

If you engage with the process (appeal, defend, or pay on time), no CCJ happens.[/quote]

Never contact them in any way, and block their number if they call you.
Only reply in response to a Letter of Claim from Smart or - more likely - its legal representative which will arrive in due course.

Are you saying that you have now received a 'Letter of Claim' (or similarly worded letter)?

Your link asks me to “collaborate” with you, which sounds bad. Nothing personal. Can you please post it so it can simply be viewed? If the letter is from a debt collector it can and should be ignored. If it’s a Letter of Claim then it’s appropriate to reply to it.

Can’t seem to upload imagines.

The Letter is from CST law

‘Our client would like to provide you with this opportunity to make full payment of the sum of £170.00 thereby avoiding court action being taken and any increase in the amount claimed. Please contact Debt Recovery Plus Ltd in order to discuss a payment proposal or make payment online at www.debtrecoveryplus.co.uk/pay, or by calling their payment line on 0208 016 4342.
If you are unable to make payment in full, it may be possible for DRP to agree a payment plan with you. If you do not pay by 27th November 2025, please ensure you keep Debt Recovery Plus Ltd updated as to your current address so that any court documents are correctly directed to’

Its also has a title of ‘ unpaid debt ; reminder notice’

Refer to the previous comments, do NOT reply to debt collection agents, do not provide them with updated addresses.
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

It's just a useless debt recovery letter. You've already been advised that you can safely ignore all debt recovery letters.

Come back if/when you receive a Letter of Claim (LoC), most likely from DCB Legal (not DCBL). In the meantime get on with your life. Nothing is going to happen.
