3. The Red Route has been in place for some years now. I would expect any professional driver to familiarise himself with parking restrictions generally and any local variations. By 2026 a private hire driver would or should have been aware that London Borough of Redbridge does not have a boarding/alighting for private hire vehicles.

What a load of cobblers!!!  Mr. Burke fails to comprehend that a PHV driver could be from anywhere in/around London, with Redbridge being just one of the city's 33 boroughs/districts.  It could also be the driver's first day on the job.

Similar road markings having different directives/rules at different locations should not be allowed!!

....where very  recently I had to construct a similar argument.

FYI - it's not the entire length of your vehicle that you need account for, rather just from front bumper to middle of the rear axle.

I'd visit the site in person and measure/take some pictures to backup your case.

The point made in the written submission about the TSRGD providing the basis for this restriction-type is not correct as the restriction is provided for in the Highway Code.

What. The. Actual. Feck?!?!?!
Is this another adjudicator that is also "wet behind the ears"?  Surely, by applying the test(s) of what constitutes a YJB contravention, he should have reached the same and very straightforward conclusion that was arrived at in the review.

Hello to all

The council's photo evidence doesn't show any other bay markings......so submit "no evidence/provide strict proof" as valid reps.  Thoughts?

Answers on a postcard please.

3. There was sufficient receiving space for my vehicle to clear the box completely

To the extent any part of my vehicle remained within the box markings, I am confident there was sufficient space ahead of me to have moved forward and cleared the box entirely, had I judged it necessary.

There is a manhole cover on the carriageway in the path of travel beyond the box junction. The vehicle ahead of mine had passed this manhole cover before coming to a stop. Using Google Maps' distance measuring tool, the rear edge of this manhole cover is approximately 4.8 metres from the relevant edge of the box junction markings. My vehicle (a third-generation Toyota Prius) is approximately 4.46 metres long [confirm exact figure from your V5C]. Had I drawn level with the vehicle ahead — i.e. with the front of my vehicle at the rear of the manhole cover — the rear of my own vehicle would have been approximately 0.34 metres clear of the box junction markings. This demonstrates there was sufficient receiving space available to me, and that I was not prevented from clearing the box by the presence of the vehicle ahead.

FYI - it's not the entire length of your vehicle that you need account for, rather from front bumper to middle of rear axle.  As long as you can show that no YJB would be visible in front of your rear wheels had you been touching the vehicle (Citroen DS5?) in front.

And rather than using Google maps, I'd go in person and measure/take some pictures to backup your case.

Good luck!!

LT hearing was scheduled for 4th July, but Redbridge have just advised that "WE ARE NOT CONTESTING THIS CASE AS EVIDENCE REVIWED".

A positive outcome, but really peeved that we have to waste our time in submitting reps and then pursuing the appeals process, for what was an open & shut case from the outset.

11
....but don't forget that costs can be awarded to either side....
My counterargument would be that I wasn't the one that incorrectly issued the PCN and then completely ignore perfectly valid representations as to why the alleged contravention hadn't occurred, in the hope that I'd cave in and not take it to LT, at the 'fear' of having to pay the full penalty amount.

The costs test is "wholly unreasonable". Frankly I don't think that test has been met, but no harm in trying.

What if I am self-employed and time spent in researching, drafting reps, collating evidence (photographs etc), submitting reps and the appeal, attending the appeal itself, all has an 'opportunity cost'?

When I've received a PCN and am 'guilty' of the contravention (only happened 3 times in 20years), I've taken it on the chin, paid up and learnt the lesson.  However, I'm sick & tired of CCTV operators chancing it (most likely not knowing the rules/regs themselves), issuing PCNs willy-nilly, and then to add insult to injury, completely rejecting bona-fide reps. Of the numerous (personal) appeals I've submitted to LT over the years, only one has been refused.

I'd like to make a request for costs (of which I'd already forewarned Redbridge in my initial reps).  Anybody advise me best way of approaching LT with this?

Is the adjudicator 'wet behind the ears'?

Unless there's a repeater sign or further continuation of the restriction, is there a sign 440yds further up the road designating the point at which the no u-turn restriction ends?  Is one required? Otherwise, how do you know when the restriction ends without measuring it yourself?

Reason for mentioning this is that Redbridge have recently introduced a no u-turn restriction in both directions on Cranbrook Rd (between Balfour Rd and Wellesley Rd) and unlike them to be helpful, have actually installed a sign at both ends to show where the restriction finishes.
