Late last year my car was hit by a motorcylist and the car went in for repair, but the repair centre were unable to complete all the work at the time.

They were missing some parts, one of which is a single use item, which due to being on a long lead they re-used the old part somehow, and said when they got the part in they would have the car back in to finish the work.

Since then the insurance case is complete and any outstanding work is down the the repair centre.

They also fitted an incorrect badge and didn't refit the rear bumper properly, so those items were to be re-done too.

They eventually 'got the parts' and arrange to collect the car on 6th May 2026.

I had already asked to be informed of how long the work would take and hence when the car would be returned, but since then I have not been able to get an answer from them on that.

On Friday last week (15th May) I tried calling, no answer left a message to call me - No response.
This Monday (18th may):

  • Called 10:30 in the morning, no answer left a message to call me back, no response.
  • Called 13:30, call was answered, the relevant engineer was away on lunch, they would call back in about half an hour, no call back at all.
  • Called 16:30, no answer, left a message for call back, no response at all.
Tuesday (19th May):

  • Called 14:00, no answer, left message, no response yet, and doubt I will get one.

I can see from the vehicle tracking that since the 6th, the car has only been moved and interacted with:

  • On the day of pick-up, 6th May.
  • It was moved into the workshop on 7th May at 10:33 then back out to the parking area 2 minutes later.
  • Moved again on Monday 11th May into the workshop at 09:20 and back out to the parking area at 11:00.
  • The car has not moved or been interacted with since 11th, so for the last 8 days.

If they continue ignoring my calls, what should I be doing?

The Flame Pit / This forum and creating posts.
« on: May 16, 2026, 10:06:50 pm »
Is it just me or my setup for some reason...

I use a Mac (Mac OS 26.4, Safari 26.4), and of all the forums I use, I'm sorry, but this one has to be the worst.

As I type this is the third line of text, with double carriage-returns between each.

This is the fourth, but when I post this all carriage returns will be removed and all the post will be in one block.

Fifth line : What is the trick to creating neat posts here, without having to insert "[ br ]" everywhere?

A registered keeper has received the following from LBoHounslow.

Date of notice : 07/04/2026

The PCN was delivered on Thursday : 16/04/2026

RK was abroad and opened : 17/04/2026

Long time since I have been involved with a Civil PCN, since moving out of London area. So not up to speed on them.

Are they fairly bulletproof now, or can they still be fought?

Private parking tickets / Blue Badge Cases
« on: June 02, 2025, 12:20:05 pm »
There seems to have been a flurry of blue badge cases recently, maybe this is normal I don't know. I took a look at a few out of curiosity as years back I used to frequently use blue badges.

However, I am not, and never was disabled myself, and it struck me that a lot of these case perhaps unnecessarily identify the driver, as it looks like this is assumed quite often.

My use of blue badges was only ever because of passengers, one being my grandmother before she passed, the other my wife's mother, before she passed too, hence not having used a blue badge in recent years.

So alongside the recommendations about keeping driver and keeper identity separate and unidentified, shouldn't the same be maintained when it comes to blue badge cases. Whether or not the blue badge holder was driver or passenger should be irrelevant in a many of these cases surely?

The Flame Pit / Wysiwyg except when it isn't
« on: May 29, 2025, 01:21:52 pm »
When I use the wysiwyg editor,  it  appears to remove carriage returns when the post is submitted.
I've looked at the options for my account and can see none that would address this.
Inserting "[ br ]" as a work around works,  but clunky.
Am I missing something or is the post editor really like this?

Private parking tickets / DCBL - Notice of Debt Recovery
« on: May 27, 2025, 10:13:46 pm »
I have been shown the following letters by the Registered Keeper (RK) of the vehicle concerned:

First dated 28/04/2025:

Second dated 13/05/2025:

Unfortunately this case started on Pepipoo, and so the intervening history is missing.

My recollection is that it was worked out that the "Location:" referred to a building that no longer exists. Sussex House was demolished in 2008, I believe an appeal was made based on that information.

Now three years later, the RK has received these letters, and I was wondering what the best thing is to advise them?

Recently had to visit Gatwick North several times over a couple of days as the wife was trying to recover a lost suitcase.

Anyway, each visit the car we were travelling in was parked in the North Terminal Short Stay carpark. Three sessions in total.

The first visit a ticket was obtained recording an entry at about 01:15, when we went to leave about an hour later, on presenting the ticket to the machine, it simply said "Drive to exit", which we did. On arriving at the exit barrier, the screen on the machine said reading registration, popped up the registration on the screen and then opened the barrier and we left.

The subsequent two visits were around 16:50 the same day (Sunday 27th) and today (28th) at around 20:35. These two visits cost £10 each.

I put the first visit not be charged down to it being in the small hours of the morning. Later investigation however it would seem that the short stay is a 24hr carpark and there are no free time periods listed. The minimum is 0 to 30 mins at £6, 31-60 mins at £10.

On the last visit I asked a member of Easyjet staff if she knew, and she said "Oh they're very clever, I'd advise going online and paying the £5 drop off fee, otherwise they'll send you a ticket for £100."

I got home and thought "No that can't be right." the drop off route is completely separate, and we definitely didn't go anywhere near it.

I think I know what happened now though...

I think that going into the carpark at 01:15, and leaving an hour later, it would be 02:10 exit, BUT... the clocks went back at 02:00, so I think the machine basically thought we were within the 10 minute period to change our minds and leave the car park without committing to parking and paying.

Does this sound plausible, and should we just wait and see what happens, or should we be taking any other action?
