#1 Ringo & clarity of free parking periods/refunds
on 28 Dec, 2025 12:12 in The Flame Pit
Longtime lurker & previous user of the old site. Not sure if this is the right place but as its not PCN related I guess it's a good place to start.I parked in Edinburgh (on street parking) on Saturday evening ~16:20 and noted the Ringo code on the nearby meter, jumped on the app and went and created a parking session. Selected 2 hours from the dropdown option list, paid the £8.40 it requested, and it was only once it finished and displayed the session details that it detailed the session end time would be 10:30am on monday, rather than it create a (free)session for 2 hours starting now, saturday afternoon.Being from Glasgow area where parking is now charged 7 days i was a little surprised at saturday being free in edinburgh. Nowhere in ringo was it openly displayed that this was currently a free period and he period paid for would be for the period starting at the next charging period (in 2 days time).I feel this is a little underhand on their (Ringo/edinburgh council) part & would like to cancel/refund this unused & unneeded session but this doesn't seem possible. The refund section on Ringo direct you to:https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/parking-spaces/paying-parking-using-mobileThe refunds section states:"RingGo refundRingGo refunds are only considered where:Two sessions have been purchased:Covering the same location and time ORIncorrect vehicles have been used and a new session for the correct vehicle has been purchased. We do not issue refunds where:The session has been purchased in error and is no longer requiredThe session has been purchased outwith the charging times."Any thought on how to go about this other than requesting a chargeback on my card, or even just on the legalities/code of practice compliance's of this? Basically i wanted and selected 2 hours from now, not a 42 hour session from now, seeing as it signed max stay 6 hours too.I do have screen shots recreating the session available if neededThanks in advance for any thoughts/help and advice
