Apologies I think I’ve lead you astray.

I am the registered keeper for the vehicle that recieved the ticket. I was not the driver, this was my partner - we share finances and were together, so practically this is one in the same.

The car they are demanding the V5 for is the number plate which I mistakenly used when paying for parking. They have requested this as ‘evidence’ - but I do not own this car nor was it parked. In error, I selected this number plate instead of my own.

I have already registered a formal complaint and has no response.

When paying for parking I chose the wrong number plate of a list on my app ‘paybyphone’ - in the confirm screen I hadn’t seen that it had flipped to the top selected number plate.

This isn’t a car I own, it was either a friends car or a hire car. I appealing the ticket and provided evidence that I had paid for the correct amount of time, and explained the situation. The parking company ‘GXS’ seemingly agreed with my appeal in that they could see that parking had been paid for the wrong number plate,  and offered to reduce the charge to £20 should I provide a V5 confirming I own the car I have paid for
In error. I’m unable to provide because I don’t own the other car.

I was also able to demonstrate the number plate paid for my is not in use. So it’s highly unlikely the same car happened to be parked on the same day!

I understand that this is a major keying error, and therefore they should offer £20 for 14 days. I am now appealing through the IAS. My question is -

With these errors do you have to provide follow up information for the car you paid for in error or should it be enough that I can demonstrate how the keying error happened (both cars listed on my account)?

The appeal initially was approved for £20 suggesting they agree it was an error rather than a flat out refusal. Is this likely to help with the appeal through the IAS?


I have looked at section 17 of the code of practice and can’t find anything more specific.
