Yes and yes! Everyone makes mistakes mate.

Thanks for your reply — I think I may have accidentally caused a bit of confusion there.

When I said she had “recently passed”, I meant her driving test… not that she’s passed away. She’s very much alive and enjoying her first car.

She is the registered keeper.

I do take your point on entitlement vs mitigation — understood that this hinges on discretion rather than strict compliance.

Could you help draft something for Bradford Council?

Thanks for the reply.

Just to add some context — this was for my sister who has recently passed and this is her first car. She sent me the registration to input for the visitor permit as she was coming over to visit.

We live on a permit holders only street with Bradford Council, so I had to arrange and pay for a visitor permit for her to park there.

I’ve clearly made a genuine mistake when entering it, mixing up the letter “O” with the number “0”. The permit itself was active and paid for, and the vehicle was entitled to be parked there.

Having read tincombe’s reply, I understand the importance of VRM accuracy, but this is a single-character error and the entered VRM is very close to the correct one, not a completely different vehicle.

There was no attempt to avoid payment or gain any advantage — just a simple input error.

Do you think this is something worth pursuing on the basis of a minor keying error and genuine compliance?

Hi,

Please see my draft below:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to make formal representations against the above PCN.

A visitor permit was validly purchased and active for the relevant date, time and location. However, when entering the vehicle registration, I made a genuine typing error. The correct registration is BT14OCZ, but it was entered as BT140CZ, mistakenly using the number “0” instead of the letter “O”.

This is a minor keying error involving a single character. The registration entered is clearly very similar to the correct vehicle and does not represent a different or unrelated vehicle.

The permit itself was valid and paid for, and the vehicle was entitled to park. There was no attempt to avoid payment or the parking restrictions, and there has been no financial loss to the council.

I appreciate that the VRM must be entered correctly, however I respectfully ask that discretion be applied in this case. The purpose of the scheme has been fulfilled — a valid permit was in place — and the penalty has arisen solely due to a minor human error.

In light of the above, I request that the PCN be cancelled.

Hi all,

I’m seeking advice before appealing a PCN from Bradford Council.

A visitor permit was active for the time and location, but I entered the vehicle registration incorrectly — the correct reg is BT14OCZ, but I mistakenly entered BT140CZ (used the number “0” instead of the letter “O”).

So the permit was valid, just linked to the slightly incorrect registration due to a genuine typo.

Does anyone have experience with Bradford Council in this situation, and are they likely to accept an appeal or are they strict on exact matches?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi all,

I’m after a bit of advice on a bus lane / bus gate PCN at Boar Lane / Mill Hill in Leeds.
I go through this area fairly regularly during the day and have never had any issues or fines there before. On this occasion, I drove through earlier in the morning than I normally would, as I was picking up a passenger, and I’ve now received a PCN.

There are signs there, so I’m not saying there’s no restriction. But from experience, it’s never been enforced when I’ve gone through during the day, so it gave me the impression it might be time-based rather than 24 hours.

At the time, I didn’t notice anything clearly indicating it was a 24-hour restriction.
Just trying to understand:
Is this actually a 24-hour bus gate?
Has anyone else had a PCN from this location?
Is there any argument around the signage or how it’s enforced?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks 👍

The Flame Pit / Private Hire Pick up/drop off guidance
« on: January 09, 2025, 09:09:52 pm »
Hi everyone.

Need some guidance on the post below:

What are the rights of private hire drivers when it comes to parking in council-regulated areas, such as waiting in loading bays or stopping on double yellow lines? I'm looking for clarification on what is legally permitted while picking up or dropping off passengers.

I ask this as at times we do get some trouble by the parking wardens.

Kind regards

Hi guys.

Received a response back from the council to say all the pcn notices have been cancelled.

I was given false information regarding the bus gate cameras enforcement.

10
I've had 7 pcns come through... Can i appeal the multiple pcns at once or do they have to be done one at a time?

Thanks.

Thank you for your reply @cp8759.

I'm a private hire driver and did share with friends in regards to the temporary deactivation of the bus gate camera. Do you suggest they also use the same draft?

Hi all,

I am writing to urgently seek your advice and assistance regarding a concerning situation I am facing with Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued for a bus gate contravention on Bridge Street in Bradford.

Recently, I received multiple PCN,s for allegedly contravening the bus gate on Bridge Street. Prior to this, I had contacted the council to inquire about the camera enforcement of the bus gate, and I was informed that the bus gate outside the Queen pub on Bridge Street had been temporarily deactivated, while all other bus gates on Bridge Street remained operational. Based on this information, I believed it was permissible to use that route without incurring any penalties.

To my dismay, not only did I receive the PCN for the alleged contravention, but I also received multiple additional PCNs for the same bus gate contravention. Today alone, I received four PCNs through the post, despite having appealed one of them (awaiting result)

This situation is deeply concerning, as it appears to be an unjust and repetitive issuance of PCNs for a situation where I genuinely believed I was following the council's guidance. I am seeking your advice and assistance on how to handle this matter.

I have already appealed one of the PCNs and provided all relevant evidence, including the email exchanges with the council. However, I fear that I might continue to receive more PCNs, which could lead to further complications and penalties.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance on the best course of action to resolve this issue and ensure that I am not unfairly burdened with unnecessary PCNs. Your assistance in this matter is crucial, and I am hopeful that you can provide valuable insight and support.

Contravention code was 34j.

1st pcn - 11th July alleged contravention. Posted on the 14th.

2nd pcn - 5th pcn all alleged on the 12th and posted on the 19th.

May expect more.
