#2 Private parking ticket & fine in Scotland
on 13 Jun, 2024 19:16 in Private parking tickets
Hello: Today I received an email from my Scotland rental car company. It contained a bill for 40 pounds "administrative fee" and a Smart Parking fine for 100 pounds. I am wondering about my options. We parked for 15 minutes in a parking lot right behind the hotel where our elderly friends were staying. We were picking them up. We thought the parking lot was the hotel lot, as there was lots of drop off and pick up activity. I did not know the parking lot was pay and display. Never been there before. The charges seemed really excessive.I went on the Smart Parking website to dispute the fine, but it was down. So I've written them; they offer no way to call. It is extremely unlikely we will be in Inverness again, and I can be careful not to use Smart Parking lots during our frequent trips to Cornwall. So I am wondering: What dangers are there in just ignoring the charges? Can they collect from me in the United States? It appears to me this is an extremely lucrative scam for the parking lot company, and I am loathe to pay them a penny. Thoughts anyone?Belvel Boyd, Minnesota
