Unless any aggravating factors are brought to the attention of the court, (or very exceptionally, relevant mitigation), sentencing for speeding is paint by numbers. At the very bottom end of band C, you would expect 6 points, with the chances of a ban increasing as you creep further into band C. Below band C, you would generally need to have done something very naughty or very stupid (or both) for the bench (or SJ) to deviate from their colouring book of points.

Band B is 4-6 points for speeds from 31 to 40 in a 20. Depending on how well the bench paint between the lines, 37 would seem to be mathematically either at the low end of 6 points or the high end of 5 points. Technically the guidelines don't say to spread the point range out over the speed range, and if there was any reason for them to do so, the bench could award 4, 5, or 6 points for any speed in that range without having to justify going beyond the guidelines, but for the most part, it is paint by numbers.

I would suggest that being a "professional driver" who ought to know better is not information I would voluntarily be minded to put before the court.

There is no point going to court just to waste the court's time by putting on a school play of generic contrition.

Hi,

I have been caught doing 37mph in a 20mph zone.
I have received a SJPN after admitting I was the driver. I have no excuses and I am considering pleading  guilty. My license is currently clean (with all points expired/cleared). I was wondering what the outcome most likely would be. I understand that it is a Band B offence so I would be given a fine and 4-6 points or 7-28 days disqualification. I work as a private hire driver, so I would need to be driving to earn my income. Would mentioning I am a private hire driver make things worse? What would be the best thing I can do?
Also is there any point in going to the court as I am pleading guilty and they said they will post the decision to me anyway.
