Title: Re: PCN stopped where prohibited (on a red route or clearway)
Post by: gnollo on December 10, 2025, 10:37:58 am
Thank you Incandescent, is that really best practice? I mean it would be great but I have never seen parking signs at the boundary, usually they are placed in the middle of the parking area? Has anyone won this based on the sign placed not at the edge of the parking boundary?
It is only guidance, I'm afraid.

Thank you, I don't think I really have a strong case so I have just paid the fine so it is out of my way. Thank you for the advice anyway.

That was the only space available and at the time I only saw the sign that stated I could park for an hour.
Ah, right, just as I thought. One has to be careful, because often bays with different restrictions are beside each other. Clearly you missed the separator lines, which are a double-dashed line perpendicular to the kerbstone, see here at the location : -

Councils and TfL, are recommended where two separate bays are adjacent and with different restrictions that they place a sign at the bay boundary, with the restrictions for each bay on it indicated by arrows pointing left and right. Lots of people miss the bay boundary marking.  So you could submit representations stating that you saw the sign for the bay that allowed parking and did not notice the bay boundary marking. You could also state that best practice is for the signs to be placed at the bay boundary, and you may have missed the bay marking due to a badly parked vehicle straddling the boundary marking.

So why did you park in the bay which is restricted to loading and BB parking from 7am to 7pm ? The bay further along allows parking for one hour within those times. Outside the restricted hours one can park in either bay

Please post the PCN, all sides, with only name and address redacted. You'll need to use a hosting site to post pictures, as space on this forum is limited.

It is unclear what I am carrying from the picture, probably a black bag on that day, which I guess would not qualify as "loading"

Contravention location
O/S 5-13 PERRY VALE SE23

On this section of Perry Vale there are two parking zones, with an outline in white, next to each other.
No red lines on the floor inside the parking area (i have pictures but I am not sure how to attach them).
The sign of the area that I parked in says "RED ROUTE, No Stopping on Any Day 7am-7pm. Except Loading Max 20minutes or max 3 hours - disabled logo"
The sign for the section right next to where I parked says "RED ROUTE, No Stopping on Any Day 7am-7pm. Parking 1 hour no returns within 2 hours".
I did not realise that the two sections had different parking rules, I only say the sign nearer to the car, which was the one I saw.
Should the floor marking for the loading only be different? If not I guess no point me appealing for this irregularity?
Can TFL cameras generate fines if I am not actually parked on a double red line?
