It’s 40 all way from Hammersmith to Heathrow
Airport the only part at 30 is that traffic light . So I believe they dint bother with a sign just to catch drivers out and fill there pockets.
The Treasury’s pockets, not theirs.

"In March 2024, the speed limit on the A4 Great West Road was reduced from 40mph to 30mph as part of the Lowering Speed Limits programme.
With regards to signing of the new 30mph speed limit, the A4 Great West Road is a restricted road. This is defined as a road which has a system of street lighting where the lights are not more than 200 yards apart. Additional 30mph repeater signs are not permitted on restricted roads under current law."

It seems you didn't read the link I posted. There are 30mph terminal signs - it seems you simply missed them.

If they didn't 'bother' with signs then you may have a defence…

It's not sign posted at all and it has a system of street lighting. That's what makes it a 30mph limit.

A4 has been 40 mph for ever .

I don’t use that road very often but i thought it was 40mph correct me if I am wrong,
To be fair - it used to be a 40 (and 'feels' like a 40). But the clues that it's a 30 is no speed signage and a system of street lighting which makes it a 'restricted road' which is 30...
This is my first speeding ticket since i started driving at age of 18 .
Getting old now at 51
Well at least you'll be offered a course to avoid the points...

As above, you must reply naming the driver.
The only way you can then "challenge them" is to ignore any offer of a course or fixed penalty, and plead not guilty when the matter goes to court. Unless you have a valid defence which you have not shared with us, that will result in a finding of guilt, three points on your licence, and a fine and costs approaching Ł1,000.

You thought wrong. That part is 30mph.

You have no choice but to notify the driver unless you want to commit a separate offence carrying 6 points.
