Title: Re: Liverpool city council bus lane/gate PCN
Post by: Incandescent on July 08, 2025, 12:46:14 am
Anyone else have any other opinion or advice? Could I argue the distance from the advance signs is too short?

If no other comments, I will pay it.

Score will be:
Liverpool city council 1
Me 1 (I won a previous PCN appeal)
 ;D
I would submit reps on the distance between advance signs and the actual restriction signs. For me, they get away with it because most people driving around Liverpool are locals. The council have a duty under Regulation 18 of the The Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996 to place adequate signage. In my opinion here they haven't. However, the council will never give way, (they love the money too much), so you'd have to take them to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal and risk the full PCN penalty.

Using satnavs in major cities nowadays is the quickest way to getting a PCN, London being the worst, of course.

However, having said that, whilst the signs seem clear enough, there is a very short distance from turning in to assess where to go., 29 metres im fact, according to GSV. Not much time for a stranger to the city to move into the other lane. In my view the advance signs should be on Renshaw, and Lime Streets.

The advance signs just ahead couldn't be more clear IMO so you'll probably have to take this on the chin unless we can see something wrong with the PCN or their website wording.

The PCN says a charge certificate will be served and later may be served.

What's odd is the video shows four cars including yours going through the bus gate - maybe there's an exemption for some.

Probably will just have to pay. Maybe Google maps keep diverting drivers through here. More money for the council 🤷‍♂️

Looks like this one is catching people out but the signs look clear - what were you thinking the layout meant?

I was in Liverpool the other day - I'm pretty good at navigating but it's one of the most confusing city centres I've been in.

I'm pretty sure I would've just been following Google maps which I'm assuming won't hold up

Hi
Tia for any help. Just got this lovely letter in the post and I'm assuming I'm in the wrong as I have driven through the bus lane (judging by the floor sign and the blue signs on the side).

However I thought I'd post here first to see if there's any point in appealing, or to just pay the £35 charge.

The  council website and inputting the reference number shows pictures and even a video.

Just to add, the letter came addressed to my wife as she's the owner of the car but I was the one driving.
