Title: Re: Buying used car with V62

IF and that's a big IF as the trader doesn't appear to have been asked... he has the V5 and if not... why is an AA approved trader stocking a car with no V5?

"AA Approval" is, even in an ideal world, no guarantee of perfection.

In the real world, it is of no value whatever.

As the OP is no doubt aware, the stock advice is never to buy a car without a V5C.
Why the OP might think that we would advise otherwise is beyond me.

As far as I recall there is nothing really untoward about taxing a vehicle with a v62 as long as they have section 11 commonly known as the green slip. If there is a current keeper on record without the green slip the V62 is sent to the DVLA with a fee of £25 and after making the necessary enquiries the DVLA would send a new V5 and the new Registered Keeper workday be able to tax.

Trader is AA approved car dealer who doesn't register car in their name as they have these cars to sell others. Probably trader has lost v5 but car as per the check is certainly not stolen or written off.

Trader is suggesting him that when they will deliver him the car then he need to go post office to fill v62 form and tax it probably because trader doesn't have V5 document.
Has your friend actually asked the trader why he is proposing this method, and if he doesn't have the V5C, why not?

hi folks
My friend is in process of buying a used mechanically sound car from an AA approved trader. Trader is suggesting him that when they will deliver him the car then he need to go post office to fill v62 form and tax it probably because trader doesn't have V5 document. According to them it will be done in post office instantly but new V5 document will come after few weeks in post. Basic online check clearly confirm that car is not a stolen car and it has 11+ months of MOT left. What do you folks think about above whether is it legal and safe procedure.
