For me, I think you were perfectly right to assume your vehicle was compliant, as it was compliant in the London ULEZ, the sign gives no indication as to what an ULEV vehicle is so a person with a vehicle accepted in London would naturally assume his vehicle was compliant in Nottingham.
It is therefore worth while submitting reps to Nott CC on the basis that you were seriously misled on the emissions aspect. You can also say that until the first PCN arrived you were unaware your car was not compliant, therefore request all PCNs dated between the first PCN and the date it arrive with you, be cancelled.
Do not expect Nottingham City Council to be amenable to your reps, as experience of Pepipoo and this forum is that they are one of the most ruthless, venal, and rapacious councils in all England. However at least they will have to do some work to get their ill-gotten gains.
There may also be a 'technical' appeal based on mismanagement of the enforcement process, so I suggest you go onto their website as if to pay a PCN and show us what comes up. Appeals have been won on this aspect.

Hi all - first time post here but had help from PePiPoo last time I had a PCN about 15 years ago.
Unfortunately I have made a bit of a mistake and even worse repeated it without realising I was in the wrong so have two PCNs today and I expect a few more in the coming days. Last week I was on holiday in Nottingham and made a few journeys down Daleside Road (A612) in each direction. On one of the journeys I noticed the bus lane signs had green ULEZ circles on them and as the car is compliant for the London ULEZ zones being Euro 6 I was thinking that I could drive down them. Most of my journeys I stayed safe in the normal lane but I would guess about four to six times after seeing the sign I made use of the bus lane.
Today I just received two PCNs for 30th May so I expect more are due in the next few days. Both are for that day the difference being one is outbound and the other is inbound about an hour later. Having looked up the definition of a ULEV vehicle it refers to a car of less than 75 g/km CO2 where my car is between 100 and 110 g/km of CO2 despite being compliant in the so called London ULEZ Zone. Having now made this mistake confusing ULEV and ULEZ with their similar green signs I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how I can lessen the impact on my wallet with the expectation of more PCNs to come. Are Nottingham City Council likely to take pity on me and allow me to pay one fine and cancel the others? Or are they like many councils and ignore all mitigating circumstances unless a formal appeal is made?
Are there any problems with the paperwork or the signage here - especially as that initial sign had me convinced my London ULEZ compliant car was allowed to use the bus lane due to the ULEV sign?
