Title: Re: 53J Failing to comply with a restriction on vehicles entering a pedestrian zone - Islington
Post by: Hippocrates on April 19, 2025, 01:11:49 pm
@altro Try this:

The signage is inadequate as the left hand terminal sign does not face the driver form the direction I travelled. Further, the split screen obscures the time of the restriction.

Finally, the signage is confusing because of the left hand arrow on the road.

In light of the above, please cancel.

Thanks to everyone who responded!

So how do you think, is there any ground for dispute or shall I just pay the fine? It's getting close to end of 2 week's period discount

I've made the pictures of current state of signs which are uploaded here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ycI5fCQJOmERKp0xB715p4yIVLiK2YNA?usp=sharing

It looks like these specific signs shown on the camera are closed now which is weird, but there are at least two signs on adjacent street which leads to this path.

It is also worth noting that if you see these signs and decide not to proceed, what do you do then? You can't turn around on the spot

The signs at the turn are closed/not displayed because this is a 'school street' restriction - a timed restrictions on motor vehicles passing by a school at pick up and drop off time. It is half term and the restrictions only apply during term time.

You've also captured the advance warning sign which give you a heads up that there is a restriction in advance of the left turn.

If the restriction applies to you, and you missed the advanced warning sign, you would treat it in a similar manner to a 'no entry' sign (i.e. stop, check mirrors, signal, and merge into the lane heading straight across the junction rather than left)

The signs are plain enough, but for left turns into the restriction, it is council good practice to put up an advance warning sign, because it is dangerous for drivers turning left to suddenly stop on seeing the signs, or to just pass them because a driver's attention needs to be on hazards when making a manoeuvre.

As GSV is out-of-date, we'd need you to tell us if any advance signs are in position.

Hi,

Could you please let me know if there are any grounds for dispute?

I followed the navigator, I saw vehicles in the area (also video clearly shows there was one car right in front of me on the same route) and the sighs do not seem to appear on google street view so they must be relatively new. I have never been in this area and saw no sings before the turn that I'm entering a restricted area.

"The vehicle was seen in:Hungerford Road [NB] [By Camera IS0065] [Zone D]
at 09:08 on 26/03/2025"

Also PCN seems to be served on the last day of 2 weeks if this is of any help
