I've realised I can't rely on Waze, and probably any satnav to keep me out of trouble - I always have 'avoid tolls & charges' in my settings so it shouldn't have told me to go down that road, but on that particular journey it did several times. I appreciate that satnavs make mistakes but I guess I've become over-reliant on them and trust what they say. I also find it overwhelming how many signs there are now in London - it's so hard to take them all in in time, especially in the dark when I'm in an unfamiliar area. Ah well, expensive lesson learnt :-[

welcome to Londonistan !
Yeah, congestion charging is a key Islamist objective. ::)

So, having turned into this road, what did you do next, carry on down the road ?

I'm really not sure. There was definitely one road that I briefly turned into and then stopped, as per my original post, as I had a conversation about it at the time with my daughter who was also in the car. Having seen the photo on the PCN though it can't have been this road, as it clearly shows me by the kerb markers. I can only assume that the PCN is not for the road I first described but for a 2nd road that I drove all the way up without even seeing the CCZ signage.
Thanks to everyone who read and responded to my post :)

Thank you both, yes I see what you mean. I think I must have been thinking about another road, and I didn't even notice that this one was in the zone (looks like cars were parked on the left over the C on the road).

The photo on the PCN shows you car beside the dotted raised kerb stones, which are well past the sign and "C" on the road.
Yes, I have to agree, so the OP's recollection of his distance into the zone is mistaken.

I was following Waze directions on my journey back from Greenwich when the satnav told me to take a left onto Harper Rd, even though I'd set Waze to avoid the CCZ. As soon as I turned the wheel I realised it was a CCZ road, and I braked to a stop before turning back onto the main road. I stopped before going over the C sign on Harper Road, or past the warning signpost. As I didn't go past the signage and was only a couple of metres into the road I didn't think that counted as going into the CCZ so didn't pay the fee. I've now had a penalty charge notice. Do I have any grounds to appeal?
