Title: Re: Fined because DVLA lost my Letter

The tax had nearly 12 months to go, so would still have been valid if I had the car.

I didn't receive their acknowledgement, and had forgotten to expect one.

The insurance being cancelled I can understand, if they have paid out. But was your tax due to expire end of August? And not on continuous DD?

Did the DVLA acknowledge receipt of your request?

Just trying to establish if DVLA cancelled it or if it was due to expire anyway. Mainly because my BIL had similar. Sent off the scrap notice. 3 months later the DVLA sent him a notice for no tax and insurance, even though they acknowledged receipt of the V5 section previously.

I have received a letter from the DVLA Enforcement Centre.

They allege that my vehicle was not taxed or insured in September when it was written off and scrapped in July

I sent off the relevant section of the V5 the day after the insurance company's agents collected the vehicle, but they have no record of receiving this.  ( I didn't get a proof of postage at the time - it was posted in the local postbox)

I have been given a fixed penalty notice for £100 or £50 if paid in the next fortnight.

Is there anything I can do to avoid this?
