The double yellows were there in 2011 according to Google Maps so not new.

There was originally yellow lines by the gate in response to the TRO you found John which was understandable to allow access into the carpark, but now they are all the way along.

The question is: Were you parked on the yellow lines of the 1971 order, or on the later extension?
If the latter, you need to find the TRO for the extension. AIUI, no-one can paint lines on a public highway without the authority of a TRO - no TRO, nothing to contravene.

The cynic in me says that they were extended because people did not like paying a £6 charge at the car park, leading to drop in income as well as damaging the verges..

Lines are clear, as IMO is their purpose i.e. to stop random parking on the verges which damages the ground- as can be seen in the photo - and I suspect people accessing the country park.

The clearway sign is not germane: it's placed in Waungaled Lane (presumably, my GSV doesn't give this a name) to give notice that the A48 is a clearway, and there are back-to-back clearway ends signs for traffic coming off the A48.

Thanks Stamfordman, John

Learn something new every day it would seem... So the DYL's are in force up to the tree line essentially, thats annoying... The paved area is actually a farmers entrance into his field so I tend to stay away from that, just down the road towards the car park you can see on the map below is nice open space for the dog to run but the car park you can see isn't open to the public, and Margams usual car park is £6 a time which I don't mind paying when I'm taking the kids to use the facilities, but when I'm just walking the dog it gets a bit much. Probably why they put the lines down there as it can't be about safety, cars used to park along one side of the lane and I never saw any issues down there, just a money maker.

There was originally yellow lines by the gate in response to the TRO you found John which was understandable to allow access into the carpark, but now they are all the way along. I was parked at the pin and the gates are right in front of the car park you can see at the end of the road, you can pass through there as a pedestrian but not in the car:

I looked on Google Maps but looks as if GSV hasn't penetrated that far into Margam Country Park :(

Did find one TRO from 1977
https://tro.trafficpenaltytribunal.gov.uk/TRO/Neath/MARGAM-PARK-ACCESS-ROADSPORT-TALBOT-PROHIBITION-OF-WAITING-ORDER-1977-NEATH-PORT-TALBOT-COUNTY-BOROUGH-COUNCIL.pdf

no waiting both sides of Waungaled Lane but only for 130 metres - is that the entire length of the lane?

Did find a map here
http://www.margamcountrypark.co.uk/media/18747/margam-park-visitors-guide-map-2023.pdf?v=20230805145330
not much help but shows car parks

The rules
http://www.margamcountrypark.co.uk/1280
are contradictory - no driving within park, park in car parks
but no access to car parks without driving in park!
And there seems to be vehicular access to the building in the general area in which OP parked:

Yes yellow lines control the entire road including footways and verges up to road boundaries.

What is the Google Maps location - there may be some expectation of parking there but that's probably why they but in the yellows to stop verges being churned up.

There looks to be a paved part that looks like a lay-by?

Hi All

Thanks for taking the time to look at this, it's more of a question for me regarding whether or not the verge at the side of the road is actually classes as part of the carriageway?

I was parked well off the road as you can see from the images provided blocking no access, and not restricting acces or any other passing vehicles but still recieved a ticket. The road is a very quiet one that only leads to about 3 houses which was used by dog walkers primarily, but recently had the yellow lines added to it for some unknown reason, along with a clearway sign at the end of the road. Looking up the meaning of the sign, it stated that you could not stop on the carriageway so I didn't think this would prohibit me from parking well off the road, could be my lack of understanding but I'd appreciate some clarification.
