It would seem, from your narrative, that apart from not being familiar with Bristol, you are also not familiar with the Bus Gate sign, correct ? The contravention seems to be made out, so to appeal to an adjudicator, you need a technical appeal, hence looking at all pages of the PCN, but I don't see any errors. Someone else may do so, so wait a bit but don't miss the deadline for paying the discounted amount.

Thanks for the reply.  I don't have any memories of the signs.  I do remember seeing something saying 'Bus Gate' printed in white on the road.  I just don't know Bristol and was a visiter there that day.  It's 100 miles away, so not worth going back to have look at signs etc

Here are pages 3 & 4 of the PCN:

No one has looked at this subject of mine since adding all the extra required infomation late last night and the subject was rapidly moving down page 2 witgout any replies.
I had a look on their website using your details (PCN No, and car reg.) and there is, indeed, no video, just photos, none of which show you passing a bus lane or bus gate sign. Only the 'Bus Gate' markings on the carriageway show you have passed into a Buses Only street.
However, if one looks at GSV, there is an advance sign giving notice of a buses only restriction ahead, then there are the Bus Gate signs, one each side of the street, so I think you will struggle to overturn this PCN. To present a reasonable case for an appeal you have to explain how you came to ignore both the advance sign and the actual Bus Gate signs in broad daylight. So what can you tell us ?

As for the PCN, what you have shown so far, (Pages 1 & 2) seems OK, but there may be a fatal error anywhere that makes it void, so please post pages 3 and 4 if you want us fully to inspect it.

@Firestone as per the guidance here (https://www.ftla.uk/civil-penalty-charge-notices-(councils-tfl-and-so-on)/read-this-first-before-posting-your-case!-this-section-is-for-council-tfl-dartme/), the number plate should not be redacted, please post it up.

Sorry for the delay.  This the link for the 2nd page of the PCN.  Unfortumately the system doesn't seem to allow me to edit my first post so that i can add the link neatly below the first link so that both links are together:

Unfortunately there is no online facility at the council with link to either view or download the video.  Are they are under an obligation to provide this legally?   At the moment as per the form, I have to put a request in writing, to be able to view the video of the incident at their offices in Bristol, subject to facilities being available and during office hours.  This is 100+ miles away from where i live, hardly practicle.  I recall with Richmond, I was able to remotely view their evidence from their website with a few mouse clicks.  Not good

Links have already been provided for sign viewing.

Thank-you

See the no entry signs to non-bus traffic in street view on the approach instructing all other traffic to turn left.

Title: Driving in a bus lane - Bristol
Post by: Firestone on August 26, 2024, 01:17:05 am
Was visiting Bristol recently with a group of people and had to drive there. Most regrettably on the way to a museum my car was spotted in a bus lane by an Eagle eyed camera operator and they now want £70 for this alleged infringement. I was so careful to avoid a wrong turn and a penalty but it happened.  What is a ‘Bus Gate’?  Are they lawful?   I don’t recall any entry signs. Advice much welcome please/
