Title: Re: Speed Limit Change Notification Required?
Post by: Korting on June 01, 2024, 01:37:45 pm
Eastbound:  It appears that MOST of the 50MPH signs have been taken down.

Westbound:  Is very confusing, some signs say 40MPH some 50MPH, to  make matters more confusing there are no terminal 40MPH signs but there are 50MPH terminal signs, followed by 40MPH signs.

So what is the speed limit?  I suppose if you had a dash cam you could use that in evidence, but most people dont.

It's a bit of road I use most weekends driving my bus back to the garage. I've not noticed the reduction to 40mph going westbound, it's 50 from Barking to the far end of the Angel underpass about 1/4 mile short of Palmers Green where it was 40 for the approach to Green Lanes. I'll have a look next time I'm round there, but from ym work schedule it may not be for a few weeks now.

If you've got £100-ish spare there's an easy way to test it  ;)

Lol, thanks but no thanks  ;D

OK, that housing is likely to be active all the time.
Are the speed cameras updated to the new speed limit, or is it a process that can take time?

I ask because there's a speed camera on this particular stretch of road.
You can see a housing, depending on type (mostly for older types) that housing may well not have a camera in it.

Can you share a Google Street View link to the camera please?

and in the other direction:

I only noticed because a colleague had told me.
As Mr Greenslade would say, motorists are under a duty to keep a proper lookout for signs on each and every occasion, as restrictions are bound to change from time to time.

The highway authorities notifies motorists of the lower limit by providing updated speed limit signs, which you seem to have noticed, so from what you say that the authority has successfully notified you.

Of course the authority is also requires to publish various notices and these are usually found in local papers and in the relevant edition of the gazette, both before and after the making of the order.

I only noticed because a colleague had told me. I have no idea how long ago it changed, hence why I thought of this question in the first place. Obviously GSV (Dated March 2023) is still showing the 50mph speed limit.

No.

Temporary signs advising of the new speed limit are permitted but not required.

Just wondering if there is any sort of legal requirement to notify motorists of a speed limit change in a given road? (other than the actual speed limit sign)

I've been driving a certain stretch of the A406 daily for the last several years. The speed limit has always been 50mph, but I have recently noticed it's changed to 40.

I ask because there's a speed camera on this particular stretch of road.

Not that I am concerned about getting a speeding ticket at this time. I am asking purely out of curiosity.
