When you set-up the Autopay account was there any box to enter the start date ?
As it stands, you do look to have been mislead by TfL, and if it were me, I'd be strongly tempted to take them to London Tribunals, but if you do, you need to have all points covered.

My question is, does anyone think this is worth us appealing?
@IHave3CrazyCats as advised above please read the guidance (https://www.ftla.uk/civil-penalty-charge-notices-(councils-tfl-and-so-on)/read-this-first-before-posting-your-case!-this-section-is-for-council-tfl-dartme/) and we'll be able to tell you.

Please post up the Penalty Charge Notice. Just redact your name and address and leave everything else visible as per the instructions in the Read This First sticky post (https://www.ftla.uk/civil-penalty-charge-notices-(councils-tfl-and-so-on)/read-this-first-before-posting-your-case!-this-section-is-for-council-tfl-dartme/) at the top of the forum.
How do you know that your car is not ULEZ compliant? The ULEZ database is far from infallible.
At this stage it's usually always worth having a go at a challenge. They might take pity on you or they might otherwise mess up.

Hi
We have received a notice from TFL for the ULEZ unpaid charge for one day.
My husband and I visited London recently for an overnight stay and our vehicle is not ULEZ compliant. We were 100 percent aware of this as we went through and that we needed to pay the ULEZ charge. We were also aware that we could pay this within 3 days, so my husband set up an autopay account via the TFL website the following day, where he read that all charges for being in the zone would be automatically taken from his bank account at the end of the month. Job done...or so he thought until the penalty notice arrived. The notice is only for the 1st day of our stay. He contacted them and was told that the second day of our stay was covered by the autopay account, but the first day was not because the autopay account was set up the following day.
This is the exact wording on their website: -
"Auto Pay records the number of charging days a vehicle travels in the Congestion Charge zone and, if your vehicle does not meet the emissions standards, the ULEZ and LEZ. It bills users each month".
On this basis, we fully believed that, as our vehicle passed through the zone within two consecutive days and in the same month, we would be covered by the autopay for our stay, regardless of which of the two dates we set it up, and especially as we set the account up within the allowed 3 days to pay the ULEZ charges.
My question is, does anyone think this is worth us appealing?
Thanks
