Title: Re: No right turn council fine, sign illegible
Post by: Vivid23 on August 12, 2026, 07:17:59 pm
Its an online hearing, can that be changed, wasn't sure I'd be in the country. I'd pay for representation if it meant the council get no money.

There are two but I wasn't stopped at the light to have time to consider the other sign. Its dimmed as its variable enforced.

The hearing is in 10 days.

If there are supposed to be two no right signs and the nearest is missing it looks like a reasonable case but an adjudicator may not agree.

When is the appeal and have you opted for an online or telephone hearing.

Title: No right turn council fine, sign illegible

Hello all,

Received a fine for no right turn by the council.

I wanted to go the other way on a high road, so rather than making a u-turn on a major road I turned into a side road, performed the u-turn and by the time I finish it, the light was green on approach. I looked at the traffic light, saw on sign had been completely covered over and acknowledged a no left turn sign. After I had acknowledged the former, my attention turned to the incoming cyclists and motorbikes and cars in order to complete my turn. The light is a very short green, I had no reasonable time to notice the no right turn light at the other side of the junction.

I appealed on the basis the no right turn was covered with proof photos.

The council rejected my appeal. Stating I should have read the forewarning (I did a u-turn before the forewarning) and that the light was not covered and was completely operable as confirmed by them and TFL. So I took the NoR and the light was still not repaired. The council lied about its condition and that it has been fixed. 3 months after I had notified them, it still hasn't been repaired. This seems like a money making trap by the council and completely erodes trust in society.

These traffic lights in the area slightly dim on and off. I bet they make the council a lot of money. They rejected on the basis that I missed that they were not dimmed, when my appeal was that it was completely inoperable and covered up.

Anyway I am going to tribunal and have a chance to submit further evidence. I would appreciate any tips and facts I should mention to hopefully beat this unreasonable and unjustifiable fine.

In the councils representation to the tribunal, they took photos of the light a month after the NoR with the sign still not repaired. They also stated I should have read the NRT (no right turn) on the traffic light ahead. In their images, the light is dimmed (in enforcement hours) on the light across from the junction when compared to the no left turn light. I just feel their case is not well put together, and they have failed to acknowledge the state of the main NRT sign. Also in their representation of the recent photos, they didn't photograph the forewarning because its covered with a tree, I have an image of it.

Many thanks
