Pay £20

Unless you want to pursue some cause at time and expense to you. I wouldn’t bother. Your mistake cost them time and expense.
Title: Park Maven - Parking Charge in NCP car park
Post by: HotTea on June 27, 2026, 05:58:27 pm
Hi all,

I'm hoping to get a bit of advice, please.

Date of event: 14/06/2026
Date Parking Charge issued: 18/06/2026
Payment due: 16/07/2026

I have received a Parking Charge through the post to my name and address, from Park Maven after my car was parked in an NCP car park. Although the NCP app was used to make payment for the parking session, there were multiple vehicle registration numbers stored within the app and payment defaulted to a different vehicle registration number, meaning my vehicle was not covered for the duration of the parking session.

I appealed the £100 parking charge amount on 22/06/2026 citing that I had paid for parking, but the app had allocated payment to a different vehicle by default. I provided screenshots of the receipt and from within the app.

Park Maven responded via email on 24/06/2026 with the following appeal response:

"Appeal Decision Issue date: 24/06/2026.

Total amount due: £20 until 07/07/2026, £100 until 21/07/2026.

Thank you for your appeal against the above Parking Charge. We have carefully considered your appeal; however, on this occasion, the appeal has been declined.

Your evidence of payment for the parking session is, in fact, for a completely different vehicle. However, upon checking our logs, we can see the vehicle that the payment is assigned to did not enter the car park on the day in question.

Since the payment for the parking session was made under a different vehicle registration, the Parking Charge was issued correctly.

Given that the ticket was issued as a result of failing to provide the complete and correct VRM, in line with the Private Parking Sector Code of Practice F.3 (a), due to the costs incurred by ourselves in issuing the ticket we have reduced the cost of this ticket to £20 if paid within 14 days.

For future reference, please ensure that the correct and complete vehicle registration is added to your booking, as you will be liable for the full amount if another Parking Charge is issued for the same reason.

Please also note to use the operator YourParkingSpace for this car park to avoid any parking charges moving forward.

You have now reached the end of our internal appeals procedure and therefore you now have two options; you can either pay or appeal to POPLA - you cannot do both.
You can pay the total amount due as shown above via the following website: www.pay.parkmaven.com

Or, you can appeal to an Independent Appeals Service, POPLA (Parking on Private Land Appeals) using the POPLA Reference code provided above.

Please note, should you decide to appeal to POPLA and your appeal is subsequently rejected, or you decide to withdraw your appeal, the option to pay a discounted amount will no longer be available and the full amount of the Parking Charge will become due.

If you decide to appeal to POPLA, you will need to visit their website, where further details of how to appeal (either online or by downloading the relevant forms) can be found. If you are unable to access their website, please contact us for further information on how to obtain the forms. Please ensure that your POPLA reference number as noted above is quoted on all correspondence to POPLA. POPLA WEBSITE: www.popla.co.uk

You have 28 days from the date of this letter to submit an appeal to POPLA; if you appeal to POPLA we will suspend recovery activity on the Parking Charge and the charge will not increase past the full amount until the appeal has been determined.

By law we are also required to inform you that Ombudsman Services provides an alternative dispute resolution service that would be competent to deal with your appeal. However, we have not chosen to participate in their alternative dispute resolution service. As such should you wish to appeal then you must do so to POPLA, as explained above.

OMBUDSMAN WEBSITE: www.ombudsman-services.org

If you do not make payment or submit an appeal to POPLA within the relevant timeframe, the outstanding Parking Charge may be passed to our appointed debt collection agency for further action. All costs associated with this process will be added to the outstanding amount.

Yours sincerely,
Appeals Department
ParkMaven Ltd"

They mention using "the operator YourParkingSpace" to make payment going forwards, but this is an NCP car park, and payment was made successfully (albeit to the wrong car registration) via the NCP app, as per the signage indicated. I'm wondering whether this would give me any wriggle room in terms of appealing the £20 charge, or is the best hope here to just cough up the £20 and take it on the chin?

Many thanks, in advance for your help.
