Title: Re: Parking Fine for incorrect Registration entry

Hi, thank you for this. No reduced amount has been offered outside of the £100 being reduced to £60 if paid quickly. Nothing has been mentioned about a keying error, which confuses me because based on my albeit limited knowledge, this would certainly be classed as a major keying error at most and therefore should be capped at a maximum of £20. No such offer has been made.

Please read https://www.ftla.uk/private-parking-tickets/read-this-first-private-parking-charges-forum-guide/

You need to show us stuff as it advises.

Are they not “offering” a reduced amount for a “keying error”? See https://www.britishparking.co.uk/write/Documents/AOS/Sector%20Code%20Templates/sectorsingleCodeofPracticeVersion1.1130426-2.pdf

My partner has received a charge for parking at Leeds Corn Exchange. She paid for parking and displayed the ticket on the dash. They have since come back to her and said the reg number was incomplete, only showing the first character, and so she now has to pay a fine of £100. Firstly, she typed the whole number in, regardless of whether it printed correctly. Nobody would only enter the first letter. Agreed, it does only show the first character, but in my opinion, there literally isn’t even room for the whole reg plate in the designated space.

All of this aside, she has sent them a photo of the ticket which she still had, the photos they have sent of her entering the car park correlate to when the ticket was purchased by a couple of minutes, proving she made the purchase, and alongside that, she has supplied them with a photo of her bank account also making the purchase.

They have since rejected the appeal, as have the ‘independent’ claims advice. How this isn’t enough evidence is beyond me and I don’t know what to suggest. She has an open ticket with Citizens Advice and they have told her to ignore it for now, but the horror stories I read online say that they will take her to court and she will be liable for those payments too. We don’t have money for this tickets let alone court charges, and it seems incredibly unfair that she’s liable when she paid for the damn ticket originally.

So many articles also show so many other people holding up the same tickets, each with only the first digit showing, which suggests this happens a lot.

Any advice on what else to try, outside of paying an unfair charge, would be appreciated. Thank you.
