Title: PCN – wrong reg entered on PayByPhone – informal rep rejected – worth fighting?

Got a PCN at a council-run car park. I did pay via PayByPhone on the day but accidentally entered my usual car's reg instead of the one I was driving (had to borrow husband's due to emergency breakdown overnight — have AA report as evidence).

Submitted informal rep explaining the honest mistake, included the AA report and payment confirmation. Council rejected it — agreed I paid, but said it's the motorist's responsibility to enter the correct reg.

Discount is £25 (14-day window). Full charge is £50. Feels wrong to pay when money clearly left my account for that car park on that date.

Is this genuinely defensible at formal rep / adjudicator stage? Or am I wasting time and risking the £50?
