as they had looked and found you don’t need to actually pay a private company

As you’ve found, this was poor advice that you believed.

The court claim is under contract law, in which the driver entered into a contract by reading signs and parking, and agreeing to pay some amount if a parking ticket was not bought.

As it says, you have to file a defence within 14+5 days from the date on the form, so by 26 May. If you file an Acknowledgement of Service by this day, you have until 8 June to file your defence.

Of course you don’t need to pay anyone, but the claim will be on the basis that the driver of the vehicle entered into a contract by parking, and posting any other documents here will help your case.

Sitting in a car in a parking space in a car park is parking by any reasonable definition. So the purchase of the ticket and its duration will both be relevant.

The letter says it’s a claim document for money that is owed, the picture in the doc I posted the top says claim form

A good start would be to read the cunningly hidden "READ THIS FIRST" sticky at the top of this forum.

Have you received a Claim Form, a Court Order, or some other random communication? Your attached front page is a google docs link that requires whoever is determined enough to give up their free time to try to help you to request access.

Hello, someone has received a claims letter saying they owe money from a private parking ticket that was over two years ago, I think it might have been the case where the driver was sat in the car on the phone for a job interview which rang as they came into the car park, they managed to park quickly before answering the phone, then was on the phone for about 25-30 mins, they then went and paid for a ticket and went about their day, pretty sure when they got the first letter they contented it explaining what happened and they didn’t accept it so the person just ignored the rest of the letters coming through thinking it would just stop as they had looked and found you don’t need to actually pay a private company

My question is, what do they need to do now that they have received this court order ?? I have attached a link to the picture of the front page as well as after reading another post of similar where you need to see the front page
