TFL, 50r No Right Turn, Southwark Park Rd/ Jamaica Rd
« on: »
Hello, any help much appreciated. I feel duped, or i have made an honest mistake.

As i approached this junction i could see the permanent signage indicating it is no right turn. There were some roadworks around this junction, if i remember correctly a few temporary plastic barriers and crucially large yellow (roadwork type) sign on the pavement approx 10-20 meters before the lights saying "RIGHT TURN ALLOWED". I decided to take the right turn. My partner in the passenger seat said it was no right turn and i said there was a sign saying it was allowed, i remember very clearly. I guess there is a chanCe a mis-read the sign but i felt confident that i was ok. Unfortunately the image on the PCN cuts off where i saw the sign by quite a margin.

Please any advice would be great, iv a few days before the discounted rate is lost as iv been really busy and just getting time to post this now.

Kieran

I suggest you ring TfL and ask for the video. This is sent as a DVD, and TfL stop the enforcement clock for about 2 weeks whilst it is produced and sent by mail. This will give you and us more time to consider the matter. The photos on the PCN show no barriers or roadworks at all. Can you please tell us what move you made, ("from" street to "to" street).

you are right there are no roadworks visible, in retrospect the roadworks & temporary signage must have all been in the lead up to the junction.
I will request a video now thanks so much for your reply.

OK, so you need to submit representations that on the day of the alleged contravention, there were road works in progress, and a prominent sign that said "Right turn allowed".

Any idea who was doing the road works ?

Ok i spoke with the 'correct' team now. I have requested cctv footage, and the PCN is now on hold. I did query how im supposed to view a DVD when its not really used media these days to which she acknowledged not many people have the means to view DVD's anymore. What an unusual way to send out video evidence in 2026!

On another note, or a further question, Looking at the angle of the photo evidence, assuming its the same camera, it looks quite close the the junction. Im assuming now the sign i saw is approx in line with the camera pole or behind it. What will i say if the sign isnt visible in the footage?

Photo evidence are just frames from the video, which is their sole evidence.

THE PLOT THICKENS!

i just found this on another forum, I will keep digging

"Dear Transport for London,

The total number of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued for failing to comply with a no right turn restriction at the junction of Southwark Park Road and Jamaica Road between:

19 January 2026 and 26 January 2026.

A breakdown by date showing how many PCNs were issued each day during this period.

The total number of PCNs issued for the same contravention at this junction between:

5 January 2026 and 12 January 2026.

I would prefer the information in electronic format.
Yours faithfully,

xxxxxxx"
