TFL Congestion Charge PCN Shoreditch High Street
« on: »
Hi All, just want to say thanks to cp8759 & southpaw for setting this site up as the old one has been a massive help over the years, also to everyone else that gives their time & advice, it's really appreciated.

Have just received this PCN from TFL. I remember being in that area on the day & driving down Shoreditch High Street but i'm certain i didn't drive into the section in the congestion charge zone. There are 5 images on the TFL site, none show the exact location on Shoreditch High St & there's no video footage either & there's no reference to the exact location on the PCN. Does TFL have to provide video footage showing the contravention or at least a photo showing the location or stating the exact location on the PCN rather than just photos of my car which could be on any road anywhere?

Would appreciate any help/advice please. Hope the images are ok.

Thanks.

Copied over from PPP

Shoreditch High Street (A10) is very long

https://content.tfl.gov.uk/congestion-charge-zone-map.pdf shows the CC boundary as Commercial Street/Great Eastern Street - are you certain you did not cross it?

I'm as sure as i can be from my recollection as i drive that way a lot so am aware of the zone, but if i actually did drive into it doesn't TFL have to show that i was in an exact location and is there no requirement for them to provide video footage? If not then i'll just have to pay up as i can't prove otherwise, unless there's any errors on the PCN i could possibly argue?

Thanks.

Personally, I cannot see how the photographic evidence proves the location.
The experts (I am not one) here may know if there is any mileage in this + vague location.

The will also know if TfL re-offer the discount if reps received by them within the 14 days.

They will also know if there is anything in the 'small print', and if the definition of service is adequate.

I don't suppose you have dash-cam footage?

Thanks, but no dash cam unfortunately, i see what you mean about definition of service, it is quite vague. I'll have to pay at last minute if there's no other arguments.

Call TFL on Monday and ask for the video, they send a DVD in the post and they should put the penalty on hold while you wait.

EDIT: I've found the location, it's here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qySahJmhXd9cN56U8

This is the camera that snapped you: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ebJxSx9TboAQhRoC9

Directional AWS on the left: https://maps.app.goo.gl/YcAEZDTsWJjwWC3x5 (this is the only permitted approach, you can't turn left or right from Commercial Street or Great Eastern Street).

Regulatory sign: https://maps.app.goo.gl/3tAWuvwAoiXuNfAE6

You only realistic hope is if there's some issue with the signs, but you'd have to go back and check (and get photos).

Notwithstanding this, I voluntarily apply the cab rank rule. I am a member of the Society of Professional McKenzie Friends, my membership number is FM193 and I abide by the SPMF service standards.

Thanks cp8759 for your reply, really appreciate your time & effort & John u.k too, but I've decided  to pay it as I just don't have the time right now to spend on it. If there was something concrete to go on I would definitely have fought it, but TFL wins this one!!  >:(
