Salcombe Road E17 no left turn
« on: »
Hi all, I wonder if you could help me (again 😔).

I received the following PCN for a no right turn on Lea Bridge Road. I approached the junction very slowly as I was convinced the no right turn sign I saw previously wasn’t for this turn 😔. I looked into the road and could see no other signs to say no entry etc. I had a bad feeling once I’d made the turn and have been dreading receiving this ticket all week.

I’m aware it’s probably very unlikely to dispute but thought maybe someone knows any different 🥴

I have requested the traffic order, as surprisingly we've not got it on file and it's not available online as far as I could see. It's a no-brainer to make a representation, as the council has committed to reoffer the discount as long as you email a representation before midnight on 5 September i.e. 14 days from the date of service of the PCN. If you make representations by that deadline then if they don't reoffer the discount, you can appeal on the basis that the penalty demanded exceeds the amount due (because if they promise to extend the discount, they cannot resile from that commitment).

That being said, it's worth trying to make a meaningful representation. So, why did you think the signs did not apply to that particular turn?

Thank you for your time in responding.

To be honest, I was aware of the no right turn at Markhouse Road (main junction not too far ahead of the turn I made) so I thought the no right turn sign I saw on my right (which was still quite small) was an indicator for that. I was in two minds about it before I got to the turn (hence why I approached the turn with caution). I saw no other road signs on the road to say any restriction so thought it was ok. Once I had made the turn, I realised the reason why they wouldn’t have no entry signs on the front as you could turn left into the road coming from the other side of Lea Bridge Road.  :(
I’ve passed the road again since and do see the no right turn signs. I’m unable to articulate properly why I find them unambiguous. Possibly as they blend in a bit with the shop signs in the area? The signs are quite small? I wish they placed at the actual corner of that junction. I will make representations in the hope they don’t offer the discount however am stuck as to what to dispute since I see the signs, even though (to me) they seem ambiguous.

Pleas post up a draft for peer review before you send anything.

Hello, I wonder if there is a way to check the status of my appeal? I still haven’t received an update. I’ve just seen on another forum that some messages can get sent to a spam folder? I’ve checked mine and cannot see anything from the council.

Most councils have a facility on their website to show the status of the PCN. This may be buried in the pages for making payment so have a look. You'll need PCN Number, and car reg.

Great, thanks very much! Found it. It just says notice has been sent (but they haven’t logged my appeal status)  :-\

Just wait, if they take too long that opens an avenue on the basis of unfair delay.
