PCN: TfL, Box Junction offence
« on: »
Hi there,

I'd be most grateful for legal advice with a view to ascertain whether I have case to challenge or contest this PCN notice or not.

Venue: Box junction at Southern Arm Target Roundabout, UB5 near Northolt, issued by TfL.

I entered the box behind a big lorry that was moving but stopped suddenly, roughly 4 seconds but I can't be certain exactly how long, at the end of the box, and I was following it and consequently had to stop briefly.

The PCN letter received on 3 April 2025, contains two images, no video, it says: the alleged contravention at the time stated was captured by a camera and has been recorded and stored on digital storage media.

The letter and images can be seen here: https://imgur.com/a/XYzPcd0

I have also attached the PCN letter to this post if it helps.

I'd be grateful for any advice on whether I should contest this, please.

Many thanks,

Mak

You need to call TFL and request the video, we can't offer much advice without it.  They will post it to you on a dvd. They will usually put the PCN on hold while they do so but get confirmation of this when you call.

Once it arrives, post it on YouTube or similar, and give us a link.

TfL usually give you about a fortnight's suspension of the enforcement clock, but you need to be proactive, because if it doesn't arrive in that time the clock restarts automatically.  So if it hasn't turned up in about 7-10 days give them another call.  The video is key because it is (1) their sole evidence, and (2) it must show the traffic situation when you enter the box, up to the point you stop.
