My American cousin flew to London, hired a rental car and got two parking tickets affixed to the windscreen.

This post is about the first one - parked without paying the parking charge.

So my cousin doesn't want any trouble with the hire car company because they have his credit card on file. But is there anyway to make representations about this on the basis that he isn't a UK resident?

Also there appear to be no road markings in the traffic warden photos but the 2021 street view images show road markings - does this matter?

Thanks in advance

This view from 2021 shows the bays and you can make out the end line on a 2025 from the main road but there were building works there and may be the lines have been obliterated.

The first hour is free to park too.

As the rest of the street is uncontrolled bar a loading bay opposite there could be a good case for taking this on but the rental scuppers this and the best way out is probably to pay the discount.

OP, see my reply in the Hunter Rd. thread. I suggest the Proclaimers' approach:

'When they go will they send back,
A Letter from America. '

IMO, the only way to stop this at the informal stage is for the authority to think it's all too difficult.

Thanks stamfordman.

The rental company is budget. They conduct business in the USA as well as the UK.

They made my cousin sign a contract stating that he has to pay parking fines.

So two reasons why my cousin will pay the fines but obviously he hopes the informal representation will lead to a cancellation.

My concern is that communications may not work at informal stage and they'll increase the penalties to full price and then issue NTOs.

Unfortunately the only status change on Redbridge's site is the amount owing I think, not a timeline of events showing receipt of reps.

The sure way to challenge is using the online system.
