PCN for taking a right turn
« on: »
Hi
I received a PCN for taking a right turn from Lower Road onto Neptune road. I can see that others have had their charges dropped before thanks to the amazing people on this group. I think @Hippocrates has had similar cases before. I didn't see the sign as I was not planning to turn right until last minute. By this time I had passed the sign and there was no sign on the corner of the turn I took. I asked for Southwark council to send me pictures of my car and the right turn in the same image and they didn't do that but said that they aren't canceling the PCN because they are confident the sign was visible, unrestricted and clear. Can anyone help please? I feel like there should be a sign closer to the turn. I have 14 days from 28th August.
Also not sure how to send pictures of the letters in here.
Thanks
Aiysha

Please repost leaving PCN number and reg mark visible: also post a copy of what you wrote and a GSV link to the location.

Hi
Apologies, I know you are all volunteers and doing your best to get back to everyone. My 14 day window for the lower penalty charge will be expiring in a couple of days and I just wanted to know if I have any grounds for appeal on their decision please?
Thank you

I tried to look at the video but I can't get the PCN number and VRM to work at:

Does it work for you?

Hi @stamfordman
Thanks for checking this. No it doesn't work for me either. It says the PCN/VRM combination doesn't exist. :/

As you can see, there are two No Right Turn signs, but the placement of the one on the left is questionable, as the way the running lanes are configured, this is the sign most likely to be noticed but it's too far back, while the one on the right is way over to the right and out of the line of sight of an approaching motorist. Having said that, it's difficult to see what else the council might put up or improve here.

The council have built out the kerb line and made the entrance to the street much narrower too : -

So are you saying I should pay the fine?
Thanks

Not until others contribute, but don't miss the deadline for paying or submitting reps. If you're minded to pay the discount, then that is your deadline for payment.
The problem is that the signs are there. I would submit reps on the basis that whilst the signs are present, their location is below the standard for visibility bearing mind the traffic lane arrangements.

Ok thank you. Do you know how I can find out how much a fine should be? £80 seems so excessive for taking a turn at a no right turn road! :/

That is the correct amount for the contravention under the Act shown at the top of your PCN..  It's the discounted amount, the full penalty is £160 as you'll see on your PCN. Penalties in London are at least double the rest of the UK. Quite why the government allow the Mayor of London to set his own penalties is beyond me.

Ok thank you for your help. I guess I might need to pay it this time unfortunately :/

I called Southwark Council today and they said the last day to pay the lower amount is 17th Sept so I might wait another couple of days before paying. Although 14 days from the date on the letter (28th Aug) is not 17th! :/

Hi @johnuk
I sent my original message 10 days ago now but I haven't had a reply yet. Is there anyone who can have a quick look at this for me on Monday please?
Also I'd be happy to contribute to pay for your time so the volunteers can continue to do this great work.
Thank you
Aiysha

I said in #9 Sept 9th that you could submit representations based on the fact that whilst two signs are present, they are badly placed, in relation to the way the traffic lanes are arranged, and thus easy to miss by a motorist. So did yo submit any reps at all ?
