Hi,

I parked my scooter on a motorcycle parking bay in Islington at noon today (Saturday).
And I was delighted to find a PCN on my scooter upon my return 3 hours later.
I thought only Westminster charged motorcycles for parking so I overlooked the sign.
Clearly I was wrong... Payment is required until 1.30pm on Saturdays. The PCN was issued at 12:17pm.

Is there any chance I can get out of this one?

Links to the PCN front and back and to a picture of the parking sign below.

Can I claim that the sign was partially obstructed by the sticker on the bottom left corner?
All I can read is "ting location" and that does not mean anything.
Or should I just pay and move on?

Thanks

Can you please give us a GSV link to the location so we can look at the context of the sign and bay. However, parking in a marked bay puts you on a duty to look for the sign for the bay giving whatever restrictions there are on its use.

This is the location:

The latest view is from July 2022. But there was no sign at the time.
I knew Westminster was the only council to charge for motorcycle parking.
It appears Islington started doing the same at some point in the last 2 years.

There are many council photos but these are the key ones:

Did you just park and not look for signs at all?

If so you may want to consider the strategy of last resort.

The TMO is The Islington (Charged-For Parking Places) Order (Consolidation) 2023 and and the map tile is here.

"Did you just park and not look for signs at all?"

In a nutshell, it's always been free to park in motorcycle bays so indeed I didn't really look for signs.
It seems like Islington council changed it last year. Now I know.

I'll go for the strategy of last resort or I'll pay and move.

Thanks

@user_1234 have you read the thread I linked to and do you understand how it works?

You will need some evidence of mitigation to rely on, though we can help you set up the links.

Hi,
yes I read it. I've actually used it once before successfully.
However this time, I decided to pay the £40 and move on with my life.

Thanks
