Author Topic: Received PCN for a Bus Lane Infringement in Slough with Rental Car - Wasn't at the location at the claimed time  (Read 372 times)

I've received a PCN for a Bus Lane Infringement in Slough on 24th November with a rental car I had during my holiday. Problem is I haven't been to Slough on that day nor have I been there during my holiday. I rented the car from 16th to 28th november.

I fear the license plate of my rental car might be cloned. I've already contacted AVIS after receiving the Infringement notice from them. I've also submitted an appeal to the charge to Slough Borough Council with credit card records and photos with gps data showing I was at the Horsey Gap watching Seals and in Ingham on 24th.

The pictures and the traffic cam video presented as evidence show a white Peugeot 2008 looking exactly like the on I rented. The license plate is the same one as on the rental car. I have just never been to Slough.

Is there anything I'm forgetting here? I fear there might be other PCNs (or worse) coming if the license plate is indeed cloned.

Any distinguishing features of the car that you hired (request pics from Avis whilst you can and before it's de-fleeted) compared with the vehicle in CCTV/camera footage?  E.g. different alloys, stickers on front or rear screen, number plate surrounds, chrome trim, etc?

That's a good idea, thank you! I'll get in touch with Avis.

Is the PCN in your name.

What are the PCN number and VRM.

No, as it is a rental car the pcn isn't in my name.

PCN: SB42118413
VRM: KS73NNJ

You have no standing to challenge the PCN so Slough will probably tell you so.

Hard to tell with these - sometimes people use tape to alter the VRM. Here, KS73 NMO is a white Peugeot.

Hmm, I was fearing something like this. At the car park at the Horsey Gap I had to enter the VRM. Unfortunately I do not have the Parking Ticket with the VRM anymore showing the car was parked there from around 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Only the credit card record. Does the local council at Horsey have a record about this?

All in all propably too much work to dispute 35 pounds :(

Wait, that license plate is saying KS73NMJ, isn't it?

EDIT: KS73NMJ is also a white Peugeout  ;D

Yes well spotted as it's a numberplate misread as NN is on the PCN. I was fooled as NM is a white Peugeot.

Avis should really make reps telling them this - you need to try and sort this out with them. Tell them it isn't the car you rented and it's a misread.

It's no fault of yours so don't let them slap you with an admin fee.

Yep, will do that. Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction!
