Streatham, Stanthorpe Road code 31 / TFL Yellow Box

I was turning left from Stanthorpe Road onto a main road. Before turning left there is a set of traffic lights and then when you actually turn left onto the main road there is another set of traffic lights immediately around the corner. In between these two lights there is a yellow box. From Stanthorpe Road, you cannot see if the lights are red or green, it is only when you turn that you become unstuck sitting in a yellow box if the traffic has come to a standstill due to the pedestrian crossing. I have appealed this ticket however I have been rejected. From Stanthorpe Road it is impossible to see that there are lights just around the corner. When I had turned the corner, my front wheels were in the yellow box. Please can I have some help in further appealing this if possible. I noticed on another forum in 2012 another person had the exact same issue on this exact same road and won the case.

You are already on day 13 so the discount expires tomorrow. I'd recommend you call TFL asap and request them to send you the video footage so we can make a judgment as to whether it actually shows a box junction offence.

They usually offer to put the clock on hold while you wait for this to come in the post on a DVD. As soon as it arrives download it, host it somewhere and provide a link

Be careful to diarise to chase if it doesn't come within a few days (say around 10 days) as we have seen cases where it never arrives and the PCN recipient loses by default as they never submit any representations.

Hello Mr Chips,
I have had a look on the TFL site and there is no video evidence - only the pictures that they have included in the PCN letter. I did not save the text of my original representations so I cannot remember exactly what I said, but I did say along the lines of "entering onto Streatham High Road from Stanthorpe Road, you cannot see the traffic lights around the corner so it is not possible to see what is going on ahead until the corner is turned. The traffic flows coming from the right hand side of the road and passing Stanthorpe Road". One thing I should mention, which you will see on the google maps is that there is a building on the corner of Stanthorpe Road on the left which obscures vision to anything going on around the corner.

As per my original response, you need to call TFL to get the video sent to you by post - unlike pretty much every other authority they don't make this available online (which is a disgrace but not something we can do much about).

Without access to this your ability to defend yourself is materially impacted, as well as the ability to make an informed choice as to whether to pursue this to adjudication (where the discount option is lost) or not.
