Hi all,

A family member is the registered keeper/owner of a Spanish-registrning, a letter arrived from the Dartford Crossing people regarding a charge for using the crossing (on 26th September 2024), since the toll was not payed within the 2-day limit of using the crossing.

When my family member realised that the fee hadn't been payed (3 days after using the crossing),  a phonecall was made to Dart Charge to explain that it was a simple case of forgetting to pay.
It was explained that he/she needed to wait for the charger letter to arrive, then he/she had the opportunity to pay only the original (£2.50 i think) fee for using the crossing.

So the letter arrived this morning, and my family member attempted to pay this £2.50 fee online, but this was denied due to more than 2 days having been passed since the letter was issued (18th November 2024).

Given what my family member was told at the time, and from looking at the website, this seems more than a little unfair to me, as the letter was acted upon immediately on receipt (this morning, Tuesday 10th December 2024).

What are our options here please?

(I'm guessing you'll need a photo of the letter.  It's is written in Spanish, since the vehicle is Spanish registered.   Also, can you tell me which parts I need to redact?)

thank you in advance,
lateman

it says if its a first offence, penalty will be cancelled if a payment of £2.50 is recived within 14 days of receipt of the notice

yes, it's supposed to be like that, but when my family member went to pay online (immediately on receipt of the letter), there was no option to pay anything other than £72.50

what is the best course of action here please?

So was it a first time contravention ? I suggest you need to ask your family member
